Players on Xbox Series X will experience PUBG: Battlegrounds in a sharper resolution compared to those on PlayStation 5. With the game approaching its ten-year anniversary, developers are phasing out support for older consoles. This means the PS5 version will be an improvement over the PS4 version, but won’t quite match the visual quality of the game on Xbox Series X.
Starting November 13, 2025, PUBG: Battlegrounds will no longer be playable on PS4 and Xbox One. However, updated versions of the game designed for newer consoles will be released on the same day. The developers at PUBG Studios believe this change will improve the game’s performance and allow them to focus on making it even better. While this upgrade is positive overall, not all players will be able to enjoy the new version.
PUBG: Battlegrounds’ PS5 Resolution is Lower Than Xbox Series X
PUBG Studios recently announced that the next-generation console versions of PUBG: Battlegrounds will run at 60 frames per second. On PlayStation 5, the game will render at 1440p, while Xbox Series X will achieve 2160p. Despite the Xbox Series X having a slight edge in processing power, the difference in visual quality is surprisingly noticeable. PlayStation 5 owners will need the upgraded PS5 Pro to reach the same performance level as the Xbox Series X. However, the standard PS5 will still offer better performance than the Xbox Series S, which is limited to 1080p resolution.
PUBG: Battlegrounds Current-Gen Console Performance Compared
| Xbox Series S | Xbox Series X | PlayStation 5 | PlayStation 5 Pro | |
| Resolution | 1080p/1440p | 2160p | 1440p | 2160p |
| FPS | 60fps/30fps | 60fps | 60fps | 60fps |
Besides having a slightly less detailed picture, the Xbox versions of the new PUBG game offer a benefit PlayStation doesn’t: players can keep the progress they’ve earned – their achievements – when they upgrade from an Xbox One to a Series X or S. PlayStation players won’t have this option; their trophies won’t transfer from a PS4 to a PS5. This has happened before with PlayStation games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Skyrim: Anniversary Edition. The developers at PUBG Studios say transferring all that data would be too complicated.
PUBG: Battlegrounds PlayStation Plus members receive a special item – a Pixel Art Parachute originally from the first PUBG release on PlayStation – that Xbox Game Pass players can’t get. The game is currently being updated to run better on newer consoles, which is exciting. PUBG fans should watch for more improvements and updates starting in late 2025 and continuing after that.
