The team behind Build a Rocket Boy and MindsEye recently updated their game with some key changes and launched ARCADIA. ARCADIA is a new feature that lets players explore a library of user-created missions, races, and challenges. It’s essentially the platform for player-generated content within MindsEye, and seems to be a new version of a previously announced product called ‘Everywhere’ from Build a Rocket Boy.
So, BARB just dropped a big update, and it’s kinda changed things up in MindsEye. They revealed this new brand called ARCADIA, which is cool, but they took out the free roam – bummer! But, they did add some slick new movement options, like dodge rolls, which honestly make up for it. It feels way more fluid now!
They Could Have Picked a Better Song
Just this week, Build a Rocket Boy released a brief trailer showcasing ARCADIA, a world that will continually grow with new missions, races, puzzles, and challenges.
MindsEye is now subtitled as being powered by ARCADIA.
However, attentive fans noticed the song used in the ARCADIA trailer and were surprised by its unusual lyrics. The song ends with the line, ‘Play my game is all I’m asking.’
The trailer for BARB’s first game has only received 9,000 views in the past six days, suggesting very little public interest.
Just a few weeks ago, over 100 developers—both current and former employees of MindsEye—publicly accused Build a Rocket Boy of unfair treatment during the game’s development.
So, shortly after MindsEye came out, the developers announced they were going to rework it – they had some internal problems and bugs to squash. I’m getting the feeling that what they’re doing with ARCADIA is part of that big relaunch, you know?
Around the same time, Leslie Benzies, who leads BARB and previously worked as president of Rockstar North, hinted that internal issues – which he called ‘sabotage’ – contributed to the poor start of MindsEye.
