The Legend of Zelda Movie Has Seemingly Started Filming

Production has officially begun on the live-action Legend of Zelda movie. The film, a collaboration between Nintendo and Sony based on the popular video game series, was previously in the planning stages with a planned release date of 2027.

Nintendo’s success with movies really took off with The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, which was a huge hit in theaters and showed that popular video game franchises can work well on the big screen. Following that, Nintendo announced an even bigger project: a live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Directed by Wes Ball, known for The Maze Runner, the film is scheduled to come out on May 7, 2027. While actors have been chosen for Link and Zelda, details have been scarce. However, we might be getting more information soon, according to a recent listing.

The Live-Action Legend of Zelda Film Is In Production, Listing Claims

According to ProductionList, Sony is now filming a live-action Legend of Zelda adaptation. This suggests that actors and crew are in place and principal photography has started. Filming is scheduled to take place in Wellington, New Zealand, from November 4th, 2025, to April 7th, 2026. Wellington is a popular location for large-scale film productions, having hosted movies like Avatar, The Lord of the Rings, and King Kong, making it a fitting choice for this project.

Okay, so Nintendo hasn’t officially said filming has started, so don’t get too hyped just yet! But it makes sense they’d be shooting now, because all the CGI and special effects for Hyrule are gonna take a long time to finish. The movie’s already been pushed back a bit, from March to May 2027. It’s kinda cool that they’re filming during the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, though! I’m really hoping we’ll get some sneaky set pics or maybe even a little teaser trailer early next year. For now, it’s just a waiting game!
