This article may contain spoilers from Kagurabachi.
In 2024, Kohei Horikoshi’s popular manga series, My Hero Academia, came to an end, and its conclusion was widely felt by fans and the publishing world alike. The series was beloved for its compelling story, especially considering its long run, and it was a major staple of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine, alongside titles like One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen. With Jujutsu Kaisen also concluding, the magazine now faces a significant challenge in finding new series to fill the void.
Now that My Hero Academia has finished, several new manga are stepping up to take its place, and showing a lot of promise. Kagurabachi is easily the biggest new hit from Shonen Jump this year, and recent sales numbers prove it. Its latest volume was released alongside other popular Jump titles, and it significantly outperformed them all. Many believe Kagurabachi has become Japan’s new leading manga, potentially joining the ranks of Shonen Jump’s most important series.
New Oricon Ranking Shows Kagurabachi Is The Next Big Manga Series
Kagurabachi Volume 9 Dominates In Sales
Kagurabachi Vol 1 Jump Comics VIZ Media - Kagurabachi has almost 150k sales for the latest volume
- It beat popular manga like Sakamoto Days and Blue Box
In Japan, Kagurabachi is currently the most popular new manga. While it had a rough beginning, the series has quickly gained a strong following and increased its sales.
Every morning, I wake up with fresh hatred in my heart. — Chihiro, Kagurabachi
Kagurabachi just released its 9th volume, joining other popular Shonen Jump series like Blue Box, Ichi the Witch, Sakamoto Days, and Elusive Samurai. Blue Box reached volume 22, Sakamoto Days volume 24, Ichi the Witch volume 5, and Elusive Samurai volume 22, alongside Kagurabachi’s new release. Despite strong competition, Kagurabachi quickly became a standout hit.
Kagurabachi sold nearly 150,000 copies in its first month, with official numbers at 141,441 in Japan. This is impressive, as Blue Box, which had an anime series, sold around 123,000 copies during the same period.
Kagurabachi Will Get An Anime Soon
It Will Get A Big Boost In Popularity
Kagurabachi is incredibly popular in Jump magazine, even without an anime yet. While it’s already gaining a large fanbase, it’s expected to become even more popular when the anime finally releases. Currently, the anime is planned to premiere in 2026, and it’s predicted to be a huge hit.
If the anime is done well, Kagurabachi is expected to see a huge increase in popularity and become a major title for Shonen Jump, like One Piece. Ichi the Witch looks like the next promising series, but it’s still early days and will need more time before an anime adaptation is possible.
Kagurabachi has really turned things around! There was a time when people worried it might be cancelled by Shonen Jump, but now it’s become one of the most popular and talked-about new manga series. Hopefully, it keeps getting even better!
I’ve noticed that the My Hero Academia manga has finished its run, totaling 431 chapters. Luckily, you can still read them all on Manga Plus. And if you’re following Kagurabachi, it’s currently being published in Weekly Shonen Jump, with new chapters appearing on Manga Plus every week.
