Square Enix Set To Cut Over 100 Jobs In Mass Layoffs

Square Enix is letting go more than 100 employees in a global mass layoff.

According to a report from IGN’s Rebekah Valentine, Square Enix is laying off approximately 137 employees in the UK, and an unspecified number in the US.

Square Enix announced layoffs via video call to its international staff. The cuts will affect departments including marketing, publishing, business planning, quality assurance, and IT. Affected employees will begin receiving notifications on Thursday. According to Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu, this is part of a major overhaul of the company’s international publishing operations, and further details will be shared later.

These layoffs happened as the company announced its goal to automate 70% of its quality assurance and debugging processes with AI by 2027. It’s not yet known if these cuts are directly related to that AI initiative.

TopMob has contacted Square Enix for a statement about the recent layoffs. We will update this article if we receive a response or if Square Enix releases an official statement.
