This article may contain spoilers from My Hero Academia.
Fans of My Hero Academia are excited to hear that its creator, Kohei Horikoshi, will be returning to Weekly Shonen Jump. He finished the first part of My Hero Academia last year, in late 2024, and while the ending wasn’t entirely unexpected, it was still sad for many readers. To make things even more difficult, Horikoshi left around the same time as Gege Akutami, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen, which also recently concluded.
Jump is actively seeking experienced manga artists to create new work, and we’ve already seen Gege Akutami return with a sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Now, Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, is also planning a comeback. He recently confirmed in an interview with the author of Kagurabachi that he intends to create a new manga and return to publishing with Jump.

- Kohei Horikoshi wants to draw a new series
- Horikoshi knows the burden of Jump
After finishing My Hero Academia, it’s natural that Kohei Horikoshi wants to start a new manga series. Many young manga artists create multiple stories, as long-running series are actually less frequent than people realize. Given that Horikoshi is still early in his career, it was always likely he’d create another manga.
This is the story of how we all became the greatest heroes! — Izuku Midoriya, My Hero Academia
I’m so excited! It sounds like Kohei Horikoshi initially planned to just write the story for his next manga, but after talking with the team at Jump, he decided to handle the artwork himself too! That means we’re definitely getting a manga fully drawn by him, which is fantastic news. He’s even started doing some preliminary work on it, so hopefully, it won’t be too long before it officially launches in Jump!
Kohei Horikoshi has recently reiterated his desire to create another manga for Jump. He explained that working with Jump is incredibly demanding, but as an experienced manga artist, he feels up to the challenge. Here’s the full conversation he had with Hokazono from Kagurabachi in a recent interview:
Q: Horikoshi Sensei, please give a short message to Hokazono Sensei.
Horikoshi: Hokazono-san, do you have something you want to say to me? (Laughs)
Hokazono: I do, I do. Please draw a new series soon.
Horikoshi: I want to draw one.
Hokazono: I’d be thrilled if more people joined me in the weekly serialization battle. (Laughs)
I’ve noticed it’s a tough job, and honestly, there aren’t many people equipped to handle it. It really is a uniquely challenging profession, and that’s part of what makes it so demanding.
Horikoshi’s New Series Could Come Out In 2026
Horikoshi Has Already Begun Planning The New Manga
Considering Kohei Horikoshi started planning a new manga in 2025, we can expect his return to the manga world in 2026. Gege Akutami is already back with a new series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, though he’s not handling the artwork himself. While Horikoshi’s planning might take a bit longer, recent news suggests the new manga won’t be far off. Currently, One Piece is the only major hit in Shonen Jump. Though promising series like Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch are emerging, Horikoshi’s return is crucial for the magazine’s continued success.
The My Hero Academia manga finished its run after 431 chapters, and you can read them all on Manga Plus. The anime is currently airing its final season, My Hero Academia Season 8, which will have 12 episodes. You can watch it on Crunchyroll.
