One Piece’s Gol D. Roger Has Been Dethroned By A New Pirate

This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.

Fans of One Piece consistently rank Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King, among the most powerful pirates ever. According to the author, Oda, Roger possessed immense wealth, fame, and strength, and was considered the strongest pirate of his time, with only Whitebeard and Garp on his level. While Roger was incredibly powerful at his peak, recent developments in the story have revealed that he wasn’t actually the strongest pirate overall.

The Elbaf arc of One Piece has revealed a pirate who surpasses even Gol D. Roger in strength, though with a unique backstory. This pirate is the Domi Reversi’d version of Rocks, who became incredibly powerful – faster, stronger, and essentially immortal – after Imu altered him. This transformation makes him the strongest pirate seen in One Piece so far, exceeding the power of legends like Roger and Whitebeard.

Gol D. Roger Is Officially Not The Strongest Old Era Pirate In One Piece

Domi Reversi’d Rocks Is Stronger

  • Even Prime Roger can’t beat Domi Reversi’d Rocks
  • Roger needed help from Garp to beat Rocks

For a long time, fans of One Piece have debated who the most powerful pirate is, if you don’t include legendary figures we haven’t met yet, like Joy Boy and Davy Jones from the distant past. The late Pirate King, Roger, is often considered one of the strongest.

Rocks, I can’t let you go after my crew. What have you turned into? — Gol D. Roger to Rocks

As a huge One Piece fan, it’s always been clear to me that Oda considers Roger to be the absolute strongest! He’s consistently shown Roger as a force to be reckoned with, and even Whitebeard, who everyone after the Pirate King’s death called the strongest, was presented as being on Roger’s level. It really highlights just how incredibly powerful and legendary the Pirate King truly was!

While Roger is a powerful pirate in One Piece, Rocks D. Xebec is actually the strongest. He was officially given the title of ‘Domi Reversi’d’ by Imu on God Valley, which greatly increased his power and made him immortal. This boost would have allowed him to defeat Big Mom, Kaido, or Whitebeard. Although Roger and Garp eventually defeated Rocks, they had to fight as a team – neither could have won alone. This proves that Roger, on his own, wasn’t as strong as the Domi Reversi’d version of Rocks D. Xebec.

I overheard Rocks D. Xebec shouting at Whitebeard, demanding he get out of the way. Xebec said there were people on the island whose voices he intended to silence, permanently.

Without Domi Reversi, Prime Roger Is Likely Stronger

Roger Got Stronger After God Valley

The alliance between Roger and Garp, forced by the situation with Domi Reversi, suggests that the Rocks Pirates weren’t significantly more powerful than Roger and Garp. Considering Roger and Garp weren’t at the height of their abilities during the God Valley incident, it becomes evident they were genuinely stronger than the Rocks Pirates without the boost from Domi Reversi, even at their peaks.

After passing God Valley, Roger achieved the status of a Great Pirate. Meanwhile, Garp became a legendary hero in the Marines and continued to grow stronger. Both Roger and Garp were probably at their peak more powerful than Rocks, but neither of them could defeat Rocks when he had fully mastered his abilities on his own.
