How to Get Tread Lightly Badge in PEAK

The Roots area in PEAK is a particularly challenging place to survive. It’s a thick jungle filled with mushrooms that release spores, and staying in those contaminated areas will slowly infect you. These spores aren’t just a visual annoyance—they can ruin your entire playthrough if you aren’t cautious. There’s even an achievement, called Tread Lightly, that’s linked to getting infected by the spores in PEAK.

How to Get the Tread Lightly Badge in PEAK

To earn the Tread Lightly badge, you must navigate the Roots area without your spore infection reaching higher than 25%. Spores are a dangerous effect found only in the Roots. You’ll know where spores are present by seeing hazy clouds floating in the air.

When you walk through areas filled with spores, a gauge on your stamina bar will show how infected you’re becoming. The higher the gauge climbs (shown as a percentage), the more infected you are. If the spore level reaches over 25%, you’ll lose the ‘Tread Lightly’ achievement, even if you complete the area.

If a zombie bites you in PEAK, the game is over – you’ll be infected with spores and won’t be able to earn the achievement. To stay safe, don’t rush into thick areas or narrow tunnels. Carefully use your camera and move cautiously to find glowing mushroom clusters before you proceed. These mushrooms are like spore bombs; if disturbed, they explode and release a poisonous cloud that immediately increases your infection level.

If you happen to get infected, stay calm. You can lower the number of spores by using healing items. Here’s a list of what will help:

  • The Cure-All is the most reliable option since it cleanses all negative status effects instantly.
  • The Antidote heals spores and can be used up to three times.
  • The Medicinal Root, a consumable found throughout the Roots biome, can also heal spores. If you cook Medicinal Root, you’ll get extra spore reduction.
  • Using the First Aid Kit instantly cures spore infections, completely removing any active Spores affliction.

If spores start to accumulate in the Roots, the Faerie Lantern is a helpful tool. When the Lantern is running low on fuel, use it to create an explosion that will remove about 25 spores within a 3-meter area.

Successfully completing the Roots level without letting spore coverage exceed 25% will earn you the Tread Lightly badge, along with the Plague Doctor hat and outfit.
