I’ve been watching the success of Demon Slayer closely, and while everyone focuses on the anime, it’s easy to forget the manga is still incredibly popular, even though it finished its run a while ago. The anime’s popularity has actually caused a huge surge in manga sales – for months, Demon Slayer was the best-selling manga in Japan! It’s still consistently near the top. However, just recently, in October, it was overtaken by a true legend: Kingdom. Kingdom is a massively popular and high-quality series, especially in Japan, and it’s always a strong contender for the top spot. It’s a testament to its enduring appeal that it could beat out Demon Slayer.

Oricon releases weekly and monthly reports on Japan’s best-selling manga. Recently, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has been at the top of the charts, even though new volumes haven’t been published in a long time. However, as interest in the movie fades in Japan, sales are slowly going down.

While Demon Slayer remains popular, recent large releases of other manga series have impacted its sales. The newest volume of Kingdom, released in October, quickly became a best-seller, rivaled only by Spy x Family, and secured a spot as one of the top manga for the month.

Although the 77th volume of Kingdom wasn’t released until mid-October, it’s expected to continue selling well in November.

New One Piece Volume Will Likely Overtake It

Although Kingdom is expected to be a top-selling manga in Japan for October, November will likely be a challenge. The new One Piece Volume 113 has just been released, and it’s almost certain to reach number one on the Oricon charts this month. Kingdom had its peak sales recently, and with One Piece being so popular, November will undoubtedly be dominated by Eiichiro Oda’s series.

The fight for second place is still open, and Kingdom has a chance to claim it, as long as no other popular new manga come out at the same time. For a long time, Kingdom was the only series in Japan that could compete with One Piece in terms of sales, occasionally even surpassing it. However, its sales numbers have fallen significantly in recent years, despite the series maintaining its quality.
