Steam is likely to announce details about its upcoming VR headset this week. Brad Lynch, a reliable source of information about Valve, suggests the new device – potentially named the Steam Frame – could be revealed soon.
He’s even been told a specific day to keep an eye on.
Lynch announced on Discord that he’d received multiple tips over several weeks suggesting something would happen this week, particularly on Wednesday. He stated plainly that he was acting on this information.
He suggested that Valve might very well announce the device soon. Lynch believes the company will likely need a week or two to fully explain it to the public before they begin taking pre-orders.
TopMob has reached out to Valve for comment on these claims.
For months, there have been whispers about Valve’s next VR headset. Reports earlier this year suggested it would launch by the end of 2025 and cost around $1,200. In September, clues pointed to the device being called the ‘Steam Frame’. Most recently, in early October, sources indicated that mass production had begun, with Valve initially planning to manufacture between 400,000 and 600,000 units.
According to Lynch, the SteamVR Beta testing included early versions of the device, known internally as Deckard, DV1, and DV2. He explained that the “DV” units represent the final development stages before the consumer version (PV) is released.
The Steam Frame is planned to release at the same time as the new “Roy” controllers. Beyond that, rumors suggest Steam is also developing a second Steam Controller and a new gaming console running SteamOS.
Valve might be showing off the Steam Deck VR headset this week – what are your thoughts? Share them in the comments, and feel free to join the TopMob Discord server to discuss it with others!
