Sony has reiterated that Bungie’s game, Marathon, is still on track to be released before March 2026.
Sony confirmed during its latest earnings call that Bungie’s game, Marathon, is still being developed. According to Sony’s CFO, Lin Tao, the company is committed to releasing the game before the end of March 2026. Based on this timeline, a release between February and March 2026 seems likely.
Marathon, announced earlier this year, has faced significant challenges. The game hasn’t resonated with players as hoped, and the development studio was accused of plagiarism – accusations Bungie later confirmed were valid. These problems have resulted in the game being delayed, though a new release date hasn’t been announced.
But is Marathon Good Now?
I’ve been following the development closely, and it was looking a little shaky for a while. But from what I’ve heard – and it seems like info from the latest playtests at the end of October slipped out even though it was under NDA – Bungie seems to have really turned things around with the game! It’s definitely encouraging to hear.
Players who have tried the newest version of the game say it’s significantly improved, and they’re excited about its release in the next few months.
Players reported the game had improved considerably since the summer testing, though a few small problems remained that developers believed were quick fixes.
It’s still uncertain if Marathon will be popular when it’s released, but with the release of GTA 6 delayed until November 2026 and the beginning of the year looking fairly empty in terms of major game launches, Marathon could attract a good amount of attention.
While ARC Raiders is currently the biggest competitor, its popularity will likely decrease by the time Marathon releases in March 2026, giving Marathon a better chance to attract players.
