How to craft a plague mask in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

The new Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance includes a plague mask, and while it’s not confirmed if it’s required, it’s definitely a good idea to have one. If you’re worried about catching the plague or accidentally spreading it, the game’s doctors recommend crafting a mask as part of the Prevention quest, and it’s probably a smart move to listen to them.

Unfortunately, Sedletz Monastery is now locked down. The monks are in hiding, and the abbot has specifically ordered you to stay in the infirmary and not investigate the plague. However, if you’re determined to gather the materials for a plague mask, you’ll need to sneak around, avoid the guards, and save your progress frequently.

Okay, so if another player does catch you, your best bet is to either make a run for a public area where they can’t grab you, or just politely ask them to send you back to the infirmary using the chat. Trust me, you really want to avoid getting hauled in front of the abbot – especially if you’ve been ‘borrowing’ a lot of those golden crucifixes like I have! It’s not fun losing all your loot.

Where to find mint and sage

To begin making the mask, you’ll need to collect some herbs. You can find them in the Woodland Garden, located southeast on the map near Herbalist Joachim’s hut. Joachim doesn’t sell herbs, so you’ll have to gather them yourself from the garden. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 8x mint
  • 3x chamomile
  • 1x sage
  • 1x valerian

You only need the mint to complete the main goal, but you’ll also need chamomile, sage, and valerian later to make the Essential Oil. It’s best to collect those ingredients now to avoid another trip.

Where to find the Aromatic Oil recipe

You can find the oil recipe by reading the book on the lectern in the library’s southwest corner. You’ll recognize this spot – you’ve been there before while looking into the plague.

It’s best to find the book yourself if you can, as you’ll need to explain to Crispin, the librarian, why you’re leaving quarantine to ask him about it. Once you read the book, you’ll automatically learn the recipe for Essential Oil and it will be added to your inventory.

Where to find rope and leather

Next, you’ll need rope and leather. Specifically, you can find Flax Rope and Pig Skin at the construction site south of the monastery chapel, which is located in the western part of the map. Be cautious, though – there are guards patrolling the area, so avoid getting caught!

You can find the Pig Skin on a table to the north of the area, and the Flax Rope is lying on the ground beside a barrel near a cart.

How to brew the Essential Oil

Making Essential Oil is quite simple. The best place to brew it is at the alchemy station in the back right room of the infirmary, but there’s another one near Herbalist Joachim’s hut by the herb garden. You can find the recipe at the end of your book, or just follow these instructions:

  1. Add the chamomile and boil for three turns
  2. Grind the sage and add to the cauldron
  3. Boil for one turn
  4. Grind the valerian and add to the cauldron
  5. Finally pour

How to craft the plague mask

Now that you’ve made the oil, simply put the plague mask together. You can do this by examining the table in the infirmary’s backroom – it’s the same room where you made the oil. Once the mask is assembled, you’ll finish the Prevention quest and be ready to explore Sedletz crypt and uncover the source of the plague.
