This article contains spoilers from the Boruto manga.
When the series Boruto began, Naruto Uzumaki was a legendary ninja who had brought all the major ninja villages together in peace. As the Seventh Hokage, he oversaw a time of unprecedented peace and technological advancements. However, powerful enemies like Momoshiki and Isshiki Otsutsuki eventually disrupted this harmony.
As time has passed, Naruto Uzumaki isn’t as powerful as he used to be. Though he’s still a skilled and important ninja in Boruto, his strength has decreased, letting the newer generation of heroes handle threats that once needed the Seventh Hokage’s direct intervention.
5. Naruto Stopped Getting New Power-Ups
Naruto’s Baryon Mode Is Usable Just Once
Throughout his many difficult battles, Naruto Uzumaki consistently unlocked new abilities or transformations that allowed him to overcome his opponents and become stronger. This pattern continued in Boruto, most notably when he achieved Baryon Mode during his fight with Isshiki Otsutsuki. However, this power came at a devastating cost – the lives of both Naruto and Kurama.
Currently, Baryon Mode is Naruto’s strongest ability, but he can’t use it again now that he’s no longer the host of the Nine-Tailed Beast. It’s been a long time since Naruto has gotten any stronger, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be gaining new powers anytime soon. Meanwhile, the newer generation of ninja are constantly getting huge power boosts, while Naruto seems to have reached his limit.
4. Naruto Is Off the Battlefield
Naruto Remains Sealed in Another Dimension
Those who have followed the story of the Seventh Hokage, Naruto, are familiar with his role as a leader in battles against strong enemies. Throughout the original series, Naruto consistently took charge in the most difficult fights, winning not just with his strength and abilities, but also with his kindness and unwavering spirit. His courage often motivated those fighting alongside him to achieve more than they thought possible.
In a surprising turn, Boruto has removed Naruto from the current conflict by sealing him away, taking him out of the action. This means fans won’t see Naruto fighting opponents like Code and Jura, or facing off against the God Trees. He’s trapped in the Daikokuten dimension, unable to grow stronger and missing all the exciting battles. Many fans are disappointed, as they miss the powerful, world-carrying Naruto they’ve come to know and love.
3. Naruto Requires Protection and Saving
Naruto’s Fate Relies on Other Characters
It’s surprising to see the once-powerful Naruto Uzumaki now needing protection in Boruto. Losing Kurama has made him incredibly vulnerable, so much so that even Kawaki feels he needs to step in and help. Experienced allies like Shikamaru are also worried and are keeping a close watch on him to make sure he stays safe.
With Naruto now sealed, his fate rests with others – potentially Boruto or Sarada. He’s currently unable to directly affect what happens. Unless the authors, Kishimoto and Ikemoto, introduce a way for him to escape, train in secret, or regain power from another dimension, he’s completely at the mercy of external forces.
2. Boruto’s New Villains Are Overpowered
From Momoshiki to Jura and the God Trees
I’ve noticed a lot of Naruto fans, myself included, are wondering if the series has made Naruto weaker, or if the villains in Boruto are just incredibly strong. It feels like even as the Seventh Hokage, Naruto is having a harder time with threats he used to overcome easily, and it really makes you question just how powerful these new villains are.
Currently, Jura is considered the most powerful villain in the Boruto series, and many fans think he could defeat the current Naruto in a fight. Code is less powerful than Jura, but still a major threat to Naruto now that he’s unleashed his full potential. Plus, the Otsutsuki Clan remains a powerful and unpredictable enemy with god-like abilities.
1. Boruto Is Getting Stronger at Lightning Speed
Boruto Has Already Surpassed Naruto
It’s becoming increasingly clear that Boruto Uzumaki has become more powerful than his father, Naruto, within the Boruto series. While some longtime fans might find this hard to accept, Boruto’s quick progress, his ability to quickly learn strong skills, and his potential to fully utilize the power of Karma – especially with Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s help – show that he’s reached a new level of strength.
Beyond that, Boruto Uzumaki is expected to become even more powerful throughout the series, regardless of what fans of Naruto think. Although it’s unclear if Naruto will gain any new abilities, the story strongly suggests Boruto is being developed to become the strongest ninja. Boruto isn’t the only one getting stronger, though – Sarada Uchiha and even Himawari Uzumaki both have the potential to exceed their parents’ strength.
