It’s been just over two months since Borderlands 4 launched, and updates have significantly slowed down. The first month saw substantial improvements – performance fixes, adjustments to character balance, and more opportunities to earn powerful items. However, for the past few weeks, updates have been minimal, mostly limited to resetting weekly challenges.
It feels like it’s been ages since we’ve gotten anything substantial for Borderlands 4. Honestly, the last really big update was back on October 23rd, which feels like a lifetime ago! As someone who was really excited about the live-service aspects and planned to play for a long time, it’s pretty disheartening. Gearbox has been hinting at some “new and exciting content” for a couple of weeks now, but they haven’t given us any idea of when it’s coming. But, there’s a glimmer of hope! It sounds like we might finally get a reason to jump back in pretty soon, and I’m really hoping that’s true!
Borderlands 4 Has Been Teasing Content for Weeks
Rumors about Borderlands 4 started gaining traction on November 6th when Graeme Timmins, the game’s creative director, responded to a fan on X (formerly Twitter). He said the team was working on new content and planned to share more details in a future roadmap. Since then, both Timmins and the official Borderlands X account have hinted at upcoming announcements. Timmins has emphasized that the roadmap will be based on player feedback, but he’s been careful not to overpromise, explaining he prefers to avoid disappointing fans.
A small update for Borderlands 4 came out on one day, fixing a few skills and adjusting how often a specific weapon appeared. Beyond that, it was just the usual weekly reset. Then, on November 13th, players expected a larger update based on hints from a developer, but it turned out to be just a notification that the weekly challenges had been refreshed – not a full update like most others.
Borderlands 4’s Next Big Update Could Arrive Alongside Its First Bounty Pack
The first paid downloadable content (DLC) for Borderlands 4, titled How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, is coming out on November 20th. This DLC will add a new story, weapons, and character customization options for players who purchase it. While it’s sure to excite existing fans, those who haven’t bought the DLC may still be waiting for a free update to bring them back to the game.
It’s very likely that the plans for Borderlands 4 that the team, including Timmins, has hinted at recently will be revealed when the first downloadable content pack, a Bounty Pack, comes out on November 20th. The team hasn’t mentioned this pack in their previews, so it seems this new content will be separate from the roadmap. This would follow the pattern Borderlands 4 established for about a month after it first launched. This means there might finally be some new updates coming, even for players who aren’t interested in the downloadable content. Hopefully, November 20, 2025, will be the date we see these updates.
