Concord Has Effectively Been Shut Down By Sony For A Second Time

Concord is widely considered a major failure for Sony and PlayStation. It’s not surprising they want to forget about it, which is why they quickly sent copyright takedown notices for fan-made videos showing a reboot of the game, effectively stopping people from seeing it.

Concord’s launch was a clear failure. The game, a live-service shooter, reportedly cost over $400 million to make, but Sony quickly shut down the development team and took the game offline just days after it launched.

Now, a community effort to resurrect the game has been met with strong action.

Sony Issues DMCAs To Concord PC Revival

So, I saw a cool thing happened on November 14th – people actually got Concord working again on PC! It’s a fan-made revival, and they figured out how to set up custom servers. You needed to jump through a few hoops to get access, but it was awesome to be able to play it again.

What seemed like innocent fun has quickly turned into the gaze of Sony being cast upon them.

A dev post in the Concord Delta Discord updated everyone on a serious development:

“Due to worrying legal action we’ve decided to pause invites for the time being.”

So, it turns out gameplay footage of Concord leaked and ended up on YouTube. MarkScan, who basically works for Sony, immediately hit them with DMCA takedowns. Putting two and two together, it’s pretty clear what went down.

Consequently, the Concord PC project and its servers have been paused. Unless there’s a major shift, it appears Sony will likely be responsible for the project’s cancellation, once again.

Should we stop supporting Concord now that it’s ending? Or would it be a loss to see the efforts of those who enjoyed the game go to waste? Share your opinions on the TopMob Discord server.
