As a huge Escape from Tarkov fan, I’m so excited 1.0 is finally here! It feels like a new beginning for the game. It’s been amazing watching Tarkov grow over the last ten years into one of the biggest and most influential shooters out there – if you can actually get into a raid, that is!
The recent 1.0 update includes many changes, but players are finding the Flea Market mechanic particularly challenging. It turns out that certain sections, or ‘categories,’ within the Flea Market don’t become available until you reach a relatively high player level.
Flea Market Locked Down Again
The recent Escape from Tarkov update is a bit of a double-edged sword. While players will appreciate the new map, faction, weapons, and the large number of bug fixes, the game’s servers are struggling to handle the huge influx of players trying to play.
A recent change to the game’s Flea Market – where players trade items they’ve found, made, or acquired – is causing disagreement among players.
In the latest update, players need to reach certain levels before they can access different parts of the Flea Market. While the basic Flea Market still opens at level 15, more specialized categories now have higher level requirements, meaning it will take longer to unlock everything.
Here’s what we’ve seen so far:
- Bolt-action rifles – Level 20
- Assault rifles – Level 25
- Marksman rifles – Level 25
- Backpacks – Level 25
- Foregrips – Level 20
- Light and laser devices – Level 25
- Muzzle devices – Level 20
It gets a bit more extreme in some places:
- Barter items – Level 30
- Gear components – Level 30
- Injectors – Level 30
- Keycards – Level 30
And some high-tier ammo will remain locked for a very long time:
- PS12B – Level 40
- M80 – Level 35
- Blackout CJB – Level 40

This change seems intended to stop players who are trying to buy and sell in-game items for real money, but some fans haven’t reacted well to it.
