It’s Time One Piece Enters Another Timeskip After 15 Years

The anime One Piece is now in the Elbaf arc, which presents the Straw Hat Pirates with their first major challenge since the start of the series’ final story arc. While the Egghead arc was thrilling, it mainly revolved around helping Vegapunk escape. The core conflict of One Piece’s Final Saga truly kicks off with Elbaf. Viewers have already witnessed Imu and the Holy Knights attacking a country, and Luffy and his crew are now facing this crisis.

The Elbaf arc in One Piece is expected to last for over a year, and during that time, the Straw Hat crew will undoubtedly face new challenges. Many fans aren’t aware that things will become even more unpredictable after Elbaf, as creator Eiichiro Oda is planning another timeskip – a jump forward in the story’s timeline – that will be even more significant than the last one. One Piece previously featured a two-year timeskip following the Paramount War, allowing the crew to train and grow stronger. Now, Oda is setting the stage for a new, but different, timeskip, carefully planned and slowly being revealed.

Elbaf’s Time Dilation Will Give One Piece A Unique Timeskip

In Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, even seemingly small details in the dialogue can be incredibly important, often paying off years later. Dedicated fans have noticed Oda hinting that time might work differently in Elbaf, the land of the Giants. Everything in Elbaf is massive, and this seems to extend beyond just the size of its inhabitants and environment – it could even apply to something as fundamental as the passage of time itself.

Time seems to work differently in Elbaf, but it doesn’t actually flow slower. Evidence suggests time passes at the same rate there as everywhere else – the amount of time Dorry and Brogy were gone matches up with how long the Giants searched for them. What does change in Elbaf is people’s perception of time; it simply feels like time passes differently.

Louis Arnote’s Warning Is Important

Early in the Elbaf arc, viewers encountered a message left by the well-known explorer, Louis Arnote, which read:

“Do not overstay your welcome in Elbaf”

At first, fans were confused by this development. But as more information emerged, it became apparent that time seems to flow differently in Elbaf. The clearest evidence of this is Scopper Gaban. In chapter 1152 of One Piece, Gaban reunited with Shanks, and during their conversation, they discussed the crew’s disbandment. Gaban believed only 3 or 4 years had passed, while Shanks said it had actually been 10 years.

Adding to that mystery, Imu personally appeared in Elbaf to express frustration with the Holy Knights’ slow progress, which is strange considering Imu shouldn’t even know what they were doing. Elbaf is a land of giants where everything is about 3.5 times larger than normal, and giants live roughly 3.5 times longer than humans. It’s likely that time itself feels significantly slower there, perhaps more than three times slower.

The World Of One Piece Will Be More Chaotic Than Ever Before After The New Timeskip

I’m really anticipating the next timeskip in One Piece, and it feels like it’ll be a big one! It looks like we’ll experience the timeskip with the Straw Hats as they head to Elbaf. The interesting thing is, while they’re in Elbaf, time will move much faster in the rest of the world. If the current theory about a 3 or 4 times faster rate is true, a month for the Straw Hats could mean three or four months pass outside. That would mean significant developments in the war – especially for the Revolutionary Army and the World Government – while they’re away.

This suggests Shanks and Blackbeard will have both become incredibly powerful forces. More excitingly, we might finally see the Cross Guild clashing with the Navy, as several months will have passed since the events at Elbaf, leading to a much more turbulent world.
