New Pokemon Game is Surprisingly Expensive

The Nintendo Switch eShop recently listed the price for the new Pokemon Pokopia game, and it’s more expensive than many expected. Pokemon fans have had a lot to look forward to this year, including the recent release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A and a DLC coming in December. Now, The Pokemon Company is also preparing to launch Pokemon Pokopia, a surprising new spin-off title.

During the September Nintendo Direct, The Pokemon Company announced Pokemon Pokopia, a new game that takes the series in a relaxing, life-simulation direction. In Pokemon Pokopia, you play as a Ditto who has transformed into a human, and you can build a village, craft items, explore the world, and become friends with other Pokemon. Many players are comparing it to games like Animal Crossing and Minecraft because of its casual gameplay and charming, gentle art style. Now, we’re starting to learn how much the game will cost.

Pokemon Pokopia’s Launch Price is Surprisingly High

The Nintendo eShop now lists the price for the upcoming game Pokemon Pokopia, and it’s $69.99 – more than many fans anticipated. This new Pokemon spin-off will be sold at the standard price for a major new game release. Interestingly, the physical copy of Pokemon Pokopia doesn’t contain the full game; instead, it unlocks the complete digital version for download. Pokemon Pokopia is set to launch on March 5th of next year.

The expensive price of Pokemon Pokopia follows concerns about the cost of the upcoming Switch 2. Fans reacted negatively to the initial price reveal of the Switch 2, which was $450, and its games, like Mario Kart World at $80. Another point of discussion is that Pokemon Pokopia is a key card release, which is unusual because Nintendo typically develops its main games without using these cards; this version was created by Koei-Tecmo.

Even though Pokemon Pokopia is expected to be pricey, The Pokemon Company has already generated a lot of excitement for the game. A new trailer recently revealed three new Pokemon forms – Smearguru, Peakychu, and Mosslax – that will appear in this spin-off title. Previously, it was also announced that Pokemon Pokopia will feature multiplayer, letting players team up with friends to create their ideal Pokemon village. Despite the cost, Pokemon Pokopia seems like it will offer a lot of enjoyment for Pokemon fans.
