Take-Two CEO Says Gaming ‘is Moving Towards PCs’

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently shared his thoughts on the long-standing debate between console and PC gaming in a CNBC interview, and it appears he’s leaning towards one side.

For a long time, PC and console gaming have been seen as separate worlds, each with its own advantages – exclusive games on one, often better graphics on the other. Take-Two, the publisher of popular franchises like Grand Theft Auto and NBA 2K, is involved in both markets. Their sports games consistently top console sales charts every month. Although the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is delayed, impacting potential profits, the company’s CEO has recently shared their perspective on the ongoing differences between PC and console gaming.

Zelnick Says “Business is Moving Towards Open” to PC in Recent Interview

Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, recently discussed the gaming industry in an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box. When talking about console gaming specifically, Zelnick mentioned…

Zelnick believes gaming is shifting towards PCs, and the industry as a whole is favoring open platforms over closed ones. However, he also thinks that the idea of immersive, lengthy gaming experiences played on large screens – what many consider ‘console’ gaming – will always remain popular.

It’s interesting timing, honestly. Valve just announced the Steam Machine, which lets you play your Steam games on your TV, and it feels like Xbox and Microsoft are starting to focus more on PC gamers too – they’re definitely talking about things differently. But it’s kind of strange because Take-Two, the company behind Grand Theft Auto, hasn’t said anything about bringing the new GTA 6 to PC yet. The last game, GTA 5, didn’t even come to PC for two whole years after it first came out! Still, it seems like they might be ready to really embrace PC gaming this time around, which would be awesome.
