Turn-Based RPG Is Free to Play on Steam for a Limited Time

Tactical RPG fans have a limited-time opportunity to play For the King 2 for free on Steam until November 24th. This sequel to the popular 2018 game For the King continues the story right after the events of the first game, letting players discover what happens after facing the Chaos cult and the dark tower. You can try it out on Steam now without paying a thing!

For the King 2 takes everything players loved about the first game – strategic turn-based battles, exploring ever-changing maps, and challenging dungeon crawls – and expands on it. Gameplay feels like a board game, with a map made of hexagonal spaces where each character moves, trades, or fights on their turn. Battles also take place on a grid, reminiscent of games like Jeanne d’Arc and Final Fantasy Tactics, but characters remain stationary during combat.

Steam Players Can Try Out For the King for a Limited Time

From November 17th to November 24th at 10 AM PST, players can try out For the King 2 for free. During this free week, you’ll have access to the entire base game – all five chapters – plus two free downloadable content chapters and the Dark Carnival endless dungeon mode. If you’re already a fan of strategy games or enjoyed the first For the King, you probably know if this game is for you. But if you’re unsure, this is a great chance to check it out! If you enjoy it, the game is currently on sale for $9.99 (60% off), and all downloadable content is also discounted.

For a limited time, you can play For the King 2 for free! This free access coincides with the release of the new Fallen Oaths DLC, which includes a free campaign adventure called “A New Age” that continues the story from the previous update, “Child of Chaos.” Players will also get a free new playable character – the Astronomer, who returns from the first game – along with the Musket weapon set, the Hammer of the Stars weapon, and a few other bonus items.

The Fallen Oaths DLC for For the King 2 expands the game with a new area to explore and new enemy types. It also improves how weapons work, including changes to ammo and how it’s shown on screen. A new character, the Astronomer, adds two unique combat moves: Displace pushes enemies and allies towards the edges of the battle area, while Converge pulls them all into the center.

This update includes several bug fixes, particularly addressing game crashes, problems with fighting, and general gameplay issues. The user interface has also been improved to ensure everything looks right. Players can also buy the Fallen Oaths Character Pack, which adds two new characters to play as – The Voidwalker and Fallen Knight – along with new weapons (Lance and Rifle sets), a companion, a mercenary, and a unique character skin.

If you enjoy grabbing free games on Steam, there are a few new options to check out. On November 13th, both Backyard Basketball ’01 and Backyard Hockey ’02 became available to play for free. For those who prefer large-scale action RPGs, Where Winds Meet launched on November 14th and is also free. It’s an open-world adventure from Everstone Studio that’s already received a “Very Positive” rating from almost 20,000 players.
