On November 19th, Twitch announced updates to how Clip views are counted. This change is part of their effort to fight fake views. Now, views from Stories and other platforms will be included in the total. Twitch says Clip views might temporarily appear lower than before, but they plan to improve Clip analytics in future updates.
Twitch recently updated its Clip feature, building on a change made two months ago that let viewers rewind live streams. While you can still find recent broadcasts on a channel’s page, the rewind feature lets you replay moments you might have missed. However, rewind isn’t available to everyone. Only Twitch creators with Affiliate or Partner status can enable it, and viewers need to be subscribed to the channel – either directly or through Twitch Turbo – to use the feature.
Twitch Implements Clip Viewership Changes to Combat False Viewer Traffic
Twitch is updating how it counts views on Clips as part of its effort to remove fake viewership. Now, views from Twitch Stories will be included in a Clip’s total view count, making the numbers more consistent on computers and phones. Twitch has also improved its ability to detect and remove views from bots, and fixed a bug that was causing some Clips to show higher view counts than they should. While some Clips might initially show slightly fewer views after these changes, the overall numbers will be more accurate and consistent across all platforms. These updates also set the stage for new features in Clip analytics in the future.
Twitch’s recent changes to how Clips are viewed received a varied reaction from users. Many streamers also used the opportunity to ask Twitch to address a different, more frustrating issue: a change made last summer intended to combat fake viewership. This previous update stopped counting viewers who weren’t actively interacting, and creators noticed a drop in their viewer numbers and advertising income throughout 2025 as a result.
Okay, so a ‘lurker’ is basically someone who watches a stream but doesn’t really talk in chat. They just hang out and support the streamer by boosting the viewer count, which is cool! I lurk sometimes when I’m busy or just want to vibe with the stream without getting involved in the conversation.
Twitch is constantly working to combat bots, a challenge that never really ends. As it competes with platforms like YouTube Premium, TikTok, and Kick for viewers interested in short videos, it’s still unclear if Twitch’s recent efforts will make a significant difference.
