10 Strongest Devil Fruit Users In One Piece’s Rocks Era, Ranked

This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.

Over the years, Eiichiro Oda has revealed many incredibly strong characters in the world of One Piece, but fans have been particularly eager to learn more about the Rocks era. The recent flashback arc focusing on Elbaf finally gave fans a detailed look at the most powerful figures who lived and fought during that time.

It’s not surprising that many of the strongest characters in the world of One Piece have eaten Devil Fruits, considering how common they are, particularly in the Grand Line. Eiichiro Oda has already shown us some incredibly powerful Devil Fruit users from the time of Rocks D. Xebec.

Captain John

Captain John was a member of the Rocks Pirates and possessed a powerful Devil Fruit called the Jiki Jiki no Mi – the same fruit now used by Captain Kid. He used this ability to help obtain treasure at God Valley, but was quickly defeated by Ganzui. Despite having a Devil Fruit, he wasn’t considered a particularly strong fighter compared to other Devil Fruit users.

Ganzui

Ganzui was one of the powerful members of the Rocks Pirates. His Devil Fruit was the Bomu Bomu no Mi – the same one currently used by Mr. 5. Ganzui was incredibly skilled with it, able to defeat Captain John with a single attack, demonstrating his immense power and control.

Gill Buster

Most fans aren’t familiar with Gill Buster, but he first appeared in a one-shot story called “WANTED” by Eiichiro Oda. It’s since been revealed that he was a member of the Rocks Pirates. Recently, it was confirmed that he possessed the power of the Horo Horo no Mi, the same Devil Fruit now used by Perona. Although we didn’t see his full abilities, he seemingly left God Valley unharmed.

Saint Sommers

Saint Sommers, a powerful Holy Knight, possesses the Iba Iba no Mi, a Devil Fruit that lets him create thorns whenever he wants. He was a formidable opponent even during the God Valley Incident, causing widespread destruction until Rayleigh managed to intervene. However, because Sommers was immortal, Rayleigh could only partially defeat him.

Gunko

Gunko was one of the most powerful Holy Knights, but she only fought as God’s Blade during the God Valley Incident. Despite this limited time, her Devil Fruit power, the Aro Aro no Mi, made her incredibly dangerous. She was so strong, in fact, that even the Celestial Dragons were placing bets on her winning in a one-on-one fight against someone as skilled as Garling. Gunko’s ability to create and accurately fire arrows made her a truly fearsome opponent.

Kaido

During the God Valley flashback in One Piece, it was revealed that Kaido consumed the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, and instantly mastered its abilities. Using his newfound dragon powers, he even managed to attack Imu, though the attack wasn’t very effective. While the Rocks Pirates ultimately defeated him, Kaido only sustained a minor scratch. Following the battle, Kaido departed God Valley and formed his own pirate crew.

Sengoku

Even though Sengoku wasn’t present at God Valley, he was undeniably one of the most powerful individuals of his era. He possessed the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu, a Devil Fruit that allowed him to transform into a Buddha. A master of all three types of Haki, Sengoku’s greatest asset was his Devil Fruit ability, which ultimately led to his positions as an Admiral and then Fleet Admiral of the Marines.

Charlotte Linlin

Charlotte Linlin, also known as Big Mom, was a key member of the Rocks Pirates and was already feared as a powerful warrior. She possessed the abilities of the Soru Soru no Mi Devil Fruit, which she skillfully used alongside her incredibly strong Haki. During the battle at God Valley, Linlin unleashed devastating attacks against Imu, but they didn’t seem to have much effect. She remained undefeated at God Valley and later formed her own formidable pirate crew.

Edward Newgate

Whitebeard, also known as Newgate, was incredibly powerful during the age of the Rocks pirates. He possessed the Gura Gura no Mi, a Devil Fruit that allowed him to create devastating earthquakes, and his attacks became even stronger when combined with Haki. He battled legendary figures like Roger at God Valley, and even confronted Rocks himself, though he was quickly defeated. Ultimately, he allied with Polo Gram and they both escaped the island.

Imu

Most fans agree that Imu was the most powerful Devil Fruit user during the Rocks era. Their abilities seem strong enough to defeat even powerful fighters like Saturn, and they could even use the Domi Reversi technique against Rocks himself. Although Imu didn’t personally engage in battle, their immense power was evident, making them the strongest in the world at the time. While the specific Devil Fruit they possessed remains unknown, it’s widely believed they had one, solidifying their status as the era’s strongest user.
