The Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be surprisingly large, requiring 95GB of storage for the standard edition. This confirms the game is too big to fit on a game cartridge. Players, even those buying a physical copy, will need plenty of free space on their Switch 2 to play it.
Okay, so when Square Enix announced they were bringing the FF7 Remake to the new Switch 2, I was hyped, like a lot of other fans. But that hype died down pretty quickly. We found out the game needs a whopping 90GB of space, which means we’d have to use those Game-Key Cards – and nobody really likes those. Now, Square Enix just dropped another bomb: the game actually needs even more space than they originally said. Seriously? It’s frustrating, honestly.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade Will Take Up Nearly 100GB of Space on Switch 2
A recent tweet from the official Final Fantasy 7 Twitter account clarified the storage space needed for FF7 Remake Intergrade on the new Switch 2 console. The Standard Edition will require 95GB, while the Limited Early Purchase and Digital Deluxe Editions will need a substantial 99GB. Although other games have larger file sizes, FF7 Remake Intergrade is currently the biggest game available for the Switch 2. It’s important to remember that Switch 2 game cartridges currently max out at 64GB, though larger sizes may be released in the future. This means even the physical Standard Edition of the game will need an extra 30GB of storage space on the console.
Like other platforms, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade requires a lot of storage space. However, the Switch 2 has limited built-in storage – only 230GB unless you purchase a microSD card. This is much less than the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, and some players are frustrated that the Switch 2 version doesn’t address this. Another concern is the use of a Game-Key Card, which raises questions about how players will truly own the game.
People have different opinions about these options. When initial worries surfaced, before the game’s large scale was known, the director of FF7 Remake explained that Switch 2 Game-Key Cards offer faster loading, letting developers create better games for Switch players. It remains to be seen how well the game performs on the Switch 2, as FF7 Remake Intergrade is scheduled to launch in January 2026.
