PS Plus Just Took Away a Convenient Stardew Valley Feature

As a PlayStation Plus subscriber, I noticed something really strange with Stardew Valley on the service. Apparently, they’ve removed a feature that was tied to an older Sony platform – it was a bit of an odd thing to have in the first place! You know, PlayStation Plus is Sony’s way of competing with Xbox Game Pass, giving us a bunch of games to play each month, and even some permanent ones if you pay for the higher tiers. We often get cool perks too, like free trials for big games like Stellar Blade and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. But this change to Stardew Valley is a pretty big deal for such a popular indie game.

Since its release in 2016, Stardew Valley has become incredibly popular, charming millions of players worldwide. Created by a single developer, ConcernedApe, this indie farming game is considered a major influence on the rise of relaxing “cozy games,” and has sold over 40 million copies. The game continues to receive updates with new features, including multiplayer and expanded farm layouts. However, PlayStation Plus subscribers are about to lose a unique benefit related to the game.

Sony Removes Convenient Feature from Stardew Valley on PS Plus

A recent update to the PlayStation Plus version of Stardew Valley means players will no longer be able to get the game on PS Vita for free. Previously, if you owned Stardew Valley through PS Plus, you automatically received the Vita version as well. Now, Sony has removed this “cross-buy” feature, and some players who previously got the Vita version are even receiving refunds and losing access. Sony hasn’t officially commented on this change.

The recent change to Stardew Valley on PS Plus probably won’t bother most players, but it does take away a nice surprise for owners of the older PlayStation Vita console. Even though Sony stopped making the Vita in 2019, people can still buy games for it online. The Vita wasn’t a huge seller—around 16 million units—especially compared to its rival, the Nintendo 3DS, which sold over 75 million.

As a huge fan, I’m so excited to hear that Stardew Valley is still getting updates! ConcernedApe has confirmed that update 1.7 is in the works, though it’ll be a little while before we get our hands on it. It’s amazing that he’s still supporting Stardew Valley after all this time – almost a decade since it first came out! And on top of that, he’s also working on a brand new game, Haunted Chocolatier. It’s incredible to see how much love and effort he’s putting into both games, and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
