The Pokemon Trading Card Game has announced its third major set focused on Mega Evolutions, called “Ascended Heroes.” This set will introduce a new Mega Pokemon to the game. The recent Mega Evolution series has already added many exciting cards with the first two sets based on Pokemon Legends: Z-A. These sets brought back Mega Pokemon and a new type of rare card, “Mega Hyper Rare,” and also included new Charizard cards in the Phantasmal Flames expansion. Now, The Pokemon Company is giving fans a sneak peek at what’s coming next.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game has seen a lot of innovation in 2025 with its various expansions. The “Owner’s Pokémon” mechanic returned in the Journey Together and Destined Rivals sets after almost 20 years, featuring beloved characters like N, Iono, and Cynthia. This summer also marked the first time The Pokémon Company released two sets simultaneously – Black Bolt and White Flare, both focused on Pokémon from the Unova region (Generation V). Now, a new announcement hints at what’s coming in the third set featuring Mega Evolution.
Pokemon TCG Reveals New Ascended Heroes Expansion
The Pokémon Company has announced the next expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game: “Ascended Heroes.” This set will highlight several Pokémon, including Mega Dragonite, and introduce Mega Charizard Y to the game. The expansion will also feature new Stellar Tera Pokémon and more Owner’s Pokémon. “Ascended Heroes” will be released on January 30th.
The upcoming Ascended Heroes set will showcase some of the most popular cards and features from the past year. It will bring back the popular Tera mechanic for Pokemon, which hasn’t been seen since the Prismatic Evolutions set, as the game moved beyond the Scarlet and Violet series. Early previews also suggest the set will include reprints of highly desirable cards, such as Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex and Pikachu ex.
Fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game have been thrilled with the game lately, especially with the introduction of many beautiful new cards. The Mega Gengar ex card, from a recent Japanese expansion, is already selling for hundreds of dollars online, even before it’s officially available. This has led to retailers, including Walmart, limiting how many Pokémon cards each customer can buy. The upcoming “Ascended Heroes” expansion promises to be another exciting release for Pokémon fans.
