A limited number of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond fans will have the opportunity to play the game before its official release, but there’s a catch. As the launch of the new Metroid game approaches in under two weeks, Nintendo has been sharing previews. They’ve already revealed some of the first bosses, as well as the new weapons and abilities Samus will use. Now, a small group of fans will get an early play experience.
Nintendo is facing high expectations with the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, marking the return of a beloved franchise. The game had a troubled development, announced in 2017 but restarted in 2019 and eventually taken over by Retro Studios. Nintendo is also showcasing Metroid Prime 4 as a demonstration of what the new Switch 2 console can do, promising smooth gameplay at 120 frames per second and impressive graphics. Select fans will get a chance to try out a demo version before the game officially launches.
Some Metroid Prime 4 Fans Can Try Out the Game Early
Nintendo is giving some players a sneak peek at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond through limited demos. Currently, you can try it out on Switch 2 kiosks at certain Walmart stores. The demo lasts about 20 minutes and lets you play a small part of the game’s opening, set in a Federation base – it’s the same demo shown at Gamescom. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is set to launch on December 4th.
Offering fans a sneak peek at upcoming games isn’t new for Nintendo. They’ve done this before, like when they let players try out Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment at select stores before it launched. Nintendo also frequently releases demos for its games on the Switch and Switch eShop, as they recently did with a free demo of Donkey Kong Bananza. The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond demo is just the latest example of this practice.
After a long wait, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is set to bring the Metroid series back in a big way. While Metroid Dread offered a return to classic 2D gameplay four years ago and Metroid Prime received a fresh coat of paint in 2023, Metroid Prime 4 is a brand new adventure. There’s also talk that Retro Studios might be planning remasters of Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 for the Switch, giving Metroid fans even more to look forward to as the new game launches in under two weeks.
