New Marathon Community Playtest Announced, Still No Release Date

Now that the latest technical test for Marathon is complete, the developers have announced a new playtest open to the public. While sign-up details are available, the announcement also highlights that a firm release date for the game is still unknown.

The technical test for Marathon in October has concluded. Bungie has gathered helpful information from the test, and TopMob previously reported that Sony has stated the game is scheduled to release by March 2026.

We’re making progress towards another test, but we still don’t have a firm date for the complete release, which isn’t expected before March 2026.

Marathon Community Playtest Scheduled For December

I’m so excited! The official Marathon website just announced they’re looking for players for a community playtest in December 2025! It looks like they’re starting to recruit now, which is awesome.

You can now play the newest version of the extraction shooter on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Bungie has shared some details about it, stating:

Our December community playtest, called ‘The Marathon,’ will take place from December 12th to the 15th, between 2 PM and 8 PM Pacific Time each day.

Just a reminder that this playtest is confidential – please don’t share any videos or details about your experience. Also, it’s currently limited to players in North America, so everyone else will need to wait for a future opportunity.

Okay, so the recent closed test seemed really promising, which is awesome! But honestly, Bungie needs to announce a release date pretty quickly. There’s a lot of competition out there right now with games like ARC Raiders and Escape From Tarkov, and they need to make sure their game can stand out and go toe-to-toe with them.
