Jujutsu Kaisen Loses Its #1 Spot As The Biggest Manga

I’ve been watching the manga world closely, and Jujutsu Kaisen has really taken off. It was already popular even before the anime came out, but the anime adaptation sent it into the stratosphere. For three years straight, it was the best-selling manga in Japan – it nearly made it four! It’s become one of the most popular series out there.

Although Jujutsu Kaisen concluded in late 2024, it continues to be a top-selling manga, though it’s no longer at the very top. In 2025, One Piece regained its position as Japan’s best-selling manga – a title it hadn’t held since 2019, after the huge popularity of Demon Slayer. One Piece is currently leading the charts, and it’s expected to remain popular until a new breakout series emerges.

Jujutsu Kaisen has become incredibly popular over the last five years, quickly becoming one of the biggest manga series around. While it began in 2018, the anime adaptation in 2020 really propelled it to widespread success.

Studio Mappa’s anime was a fantastic take on Gege Akutami’s manga. Its impressive animation and direction quickly made it popular with viewers.

Jujutsu Kaisen quickly became incredibly popular, and in 2021, it achieved the impressive feat of becoming the best-selling manga of the year. This was a significant accomplishment, as it ended One Piece’s long run at the top. The series continued its success, remaining the best-selling manga in 2022 and coming in a very close second in 2023, just behind Blue Lock. In 2024, Jujutsu Kaisen once again reached the number one spot, becoming the best-selling manga for a third and final time.

Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK) concluded in late 2024, and although it continues to sell well, most fans agree it’s unlikely to regain its previous popularity. In 2025, One Piece officially outsold it once more.

One Piece is The Best Selling Manga In 2025

For a few years, Jujutsu Kaisen was incredibly popular. Between 2021 and 2024, it consistently sold more copies than even One Piece, which is a huge accomplishment. But 2025 is predicted to be One Piece‘s year to shine.

Even though the year isn’t finished, it’s clear that One Piece is the most popular series of the year by a significant margin. With the recent release of its 113th volume, it’s likely to extend its lead even more.

One Piece just had a huge success, though it’s possible things would have been different if Jujutsu Kaisen hadn’t finished airing.

Thanks to its upcoming sequel manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, Jujutsu Kaisen could still become as popular as One Piece by 2026. However, Modulo is expected to be a relatively short series, probably lasting just 2 or 3 volumes.

One Piece Goes Back To The Top After 7 Years

While consistently popular, One Piece hasn’t been at its strongest in recent years. In 2025, it became Japan’s best-selling manga for the first time since 2018. It took seven years for One Piece to reclaim the top spot, and it benefited from the conclusions of popular series like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen.

I’m not interested in ruling or taking over anything. I just believe the person with the greatest freedom on the seas is the Pirate King.

As a huge One Piece fan, I’ve noticed sales have dipped a bit recently, but it’s really exciting to see things bouncing back with the Elbaf arc! It’s totally normal for long-running series to see some fatigue, but honestly, the fact that One Piece has held onto such a massive fanbase for over thirty years is incredible – very few series can say that! I’m pretty confident One Piece will continue to be a top seller in 2026 too, unless something completely new and amazing comes along to challenge it.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, runs in the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 12 will be released on November 23, 2025. The release time of the chapter is midnight JST, or 11:00 AM ET (8:00 AM PT). Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps.
