9 Pirates Stronger Than Yonko Monkey D. Luffy In One Piece

This article contains spoilers for One Piece.

Monkey D. Luffy, captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, has made incredible progress since he started his journey in the East Blue. Over the past two years, he’s steadily become much more powerful, mastering his Haki, awakening the abilities of his Gomu Gomu no Mi Devil Fruit, and rising to become one of the Yonko – the most powerful pirates in the world of One Piece. While Luffy is now a top-level pirate, he still has some powerful rivals, like Shanks, who remain active.

Scopper Gaban

Scopper Gaban was a highly respected and famous member of the Roger Pirates, the crew known for successfully navigating and completing the dangerous Grand Line.

Currently, Gaban is elderly in the One Piece story and might not have the endurance to beat Luffy. But in his younger days, Gaban was much stronger, particularly with Haki. Luffy still needs to fully develop his Haki skills if he wants to become more powerful than Gaban, who is known as the left arm of the Pirate King.

Silvers Rayleigh

Silvers Rayleigh, similar to Gaban, was a key member of Roger’s crew. Now quite elderly and past his prime, Rayleigh was once an incredibly powerful and formidable fighter.

Rayleigh was an incredibly powerful Haki user, and many believed he and Gaban were as strong as Roger. Luffy still needs to improve significantly to reach the power of the Pirate King, or even match Rayleigh and Gaban.

Whitebeard

For many years, Whitebeard was widely considered the strongest person in the world. He maintained this reputation until his death during the Summit War. Despite being sick and elderly, he remained a formidable force, capable of easily defeating the Marines.

Man, Whitebeard in his prime was just incredible – truly one of the giants, right up there with Roger! He’s still considered one of the strongest Emperors of the Sea ever, and honestly, even now, he’d probably outclass Luffy. It’s amazing to think about how powerful he was!

Blackbeard

Blackbeard is currently one of the four most powerful pirates in the world, known as a Yonko, and is a major threat on the seas. He was already a formidable fighter before gaining his Devil Fruit powers, but after consuming both the Yami Yami no Mi and the Gura Gura no Mi, his strength increased dramatically. Although he hasn’t fully realized his potential in the story One Piece, he’s currently stronger than Luffy.

Rocks D. Xebec

Rocks D. Xebec was a long-standing enigma in the world of One Piece, but the recent flashback to the God Valley Incident finally revealed everything about him. We now have a clear understanding of his immense power, confirming that Rocks D. Xebec is among the strongest characters in One Piece history.

At his peak, Rocks D. Xebec was significantly stronger than Luffy is now. His mastery of Haki was exceptional, allowing him to effortlessly defeat even the most powerful warriors like a top-ranking Holy Knight and an Admiral. Had Rocks not encountered Imu so early in his life, he likely would have become even more formidable.

Gol D. Roger

Gol D. Roger is the most famous pirate in the world of One Piece. He accomplished what everyone thought was impossible: he navigated the treacherous Grand Line, discovered the legendary treasure known as the One Piece, and became the Pirate King. No one has managed to repeat this achievement yet. Luffy is currently striving to follow in Roger’s footsteps and claim the title for himself, but he still has a long way to go, as demonstrated by Roger’s incredible accomplishments at God Valley.

Shanks

Many fans believe Shanks is the most powerful pirate currently sailing the seas in One Piece, and potentially one of the strongest ever. Despite being born into a noble family – his father was a Celestial Dragon – Shanks forged his own path, joining Gol D. Roger’s crew before ultimately becoming a Yonko, one of the four most influential pirates in the world.

Watching Shanks and Luffy fight, it’s clear Shanks is much stronger right now. He doesn’t rely on a Devil Fruit like Luffy does, instead focusing entirely on Haki. And his Haki? It’s incredible – I’ve heard it’s actually on par with the legendary Joy Boy’s!

Davy D. Jones

Fans were surprised by how important Davy Jones turned out to be in the story’s conclusion. It’s interesting to note that his name was originally introduced much earlier, in the often-forgotten ‘Long Ring Long Land’ arc.

During the events in Elbaf, it was discovered that Davy D. Jones was the ancestor of both Rocks D. Xebec and Blackbeard, and also a former World King. Imu only fears two pirates, and Jones is one of them, meaning he was incredibly powerful – far more so than Luffy is today – during his time.

Joy Boy

Joy Boy was an incredibly powerful pirate, considered the strongest who ever lived, and Luffy will need to become even stronger than him. Joy Boy was a previous incarnation of Nika from a bygone era. Although he was defeated by Imu, his power was so great that Imu still fears him centuries later.

Joy Boy possesses an incredibly powerful form of Haki, possibly the strongest ever shown in One Piece. We saw a hint of it during the events on Egghead, and fans are eager to discover more about his abilities as the story unfolds.
