A Minecraft player came up with a unique challenge: playing the game using only printed screenshots. This creative approach highlights how gamers are always finding new and unusual ways to play games on unexpected devices.
Although Minecraft is known for its unique challenges, Doom from 1993 arguably takes the lead. Over time, players and programmers have pushed the limits by getting Doom to run on unexpected devices – everything from DSLR cameras and medical scanners to thermostats. But playing Doom using only printed screenshots is a particularly unusual feat, even for the Doom challenge community.
Minecraft Gamer is Utilizing Printed Screenshots to Play
YouTuber smillgames is attempting a unique challenge: playing Minecraft without looking at a screen! Instead of a display, he’s using printed screenshots to see what’s happening in the game. He showed a quick preview where viewers could see the screen normally, but during the actual challenge, he’s limited to low-quality printouts. This makes the game much harder, because he only gets updates as fast as his printer can produce new images.
Playing the game this way has some major drawbacks, as you might imagine. Because the printer can’t keep up quickly enough, even simple actions like walking around outside can feel jarring and confusing. For instance, a sheep standing right in front of the player suddenly disappears completely from one printed image to the next. At another point, the player notices a bigger problem: the poor print quality turns his in-game inventory in Minecraft into a large, solid black box.
At the time this was written, smillgames hadn’t shown all of his gameplay, so it’s unknown how much progress he made with this challenge. Given how much harder it makes the game, simply surviving a Creeper encounter seems incredibly difficult, and fighting an Ender Dragon would be even tougher. Whether he succeeds or not, it’s just one example of the incredibly difficult challenges Minecraft players often create for themselves, such as maintaining a Hardcore world for over ten thousand days.
