One of 2025’s Best Xbox Game Pass Games is Never Getting a Direct Sequel

The popular game Blue Prince, which launched on Xbox Game Pass earlier this year, won’t be getting a sequel. Blue Prince gained a lot of attention when it became available on both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra on the same day. It was praised by critics as a challenging and unique first-person puzzle game with roguelike elements.

Launching on both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus from day one helped Blue Prince reach a large audience, though it likely would have become popular through recommendations alone. It’s become one of the best-reviewed new games of 2025, earning nominations for Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie at The Game Awards. Despite its success, the developer doesn’t seem interested in making a sequel.

Blue Prince 2 is Never Happening

In an interview with Polygon, the developer of Blue Prince, Tonda Ros, confirmed that a direct sequel to the game isn’t planned. However, he hasn’t ruled out creating a new game set in the Blue Prince world, though it might not play the same way as the original. Ros explained he prefers each of his projects to be distinct and stand on their own, comparing his ideal sequel approach to the relationship between Myst and Riven rather than a simple Myst 2. While fans may be disappointed there won’t be a traditional Blue Prince 2, many will likely appreciate Ros’s creative vision.

Wow, what a month for Xbox Game Pass! Blue Prince came out during what felt like the biggest month ever for the service. And it wasn’t alone – Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, another Game Awards nominee, launched on Game Pass the same day! Then, out of nowhere, they dropped Oblivion Remastered too! Seriously, as a Game Pass subscriber, I was completely blown away – there was so much good stuff to play!

There will not be a direct sequel to Blue Prince.

The initial buzz around Xbox Game Pass has faded somewhat after a recent price increase. Now costing $29.99 a month, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will need to consistently offer amazing game selections, like it did in April 2025, to retain subscribers. For now, Game Pass members can still enjoy many popular titles, including Blue Prince.
