This article contains spoilers from the JJK series.
The manga Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is currently packed with exciting developments, and fans are really enjoying the latest chapters. When it was first announced, some fans were unsure about the series, but author Gege Akutami has quickly won them over with incredible storytelling. Beyond the strength of the main story, Akutami is also hinting at the return of popular characters from the prequel, adding even more anticipation.
We’ve already seen Yuji Itadori, the series’ main character, return. Now, it looks like the author, Gege, is determined to bring back the main villain, Ryomen Sukuna, too. The recent focus on Sukuna’s finger in the Tokyo arc strongly suggests his comeback is coming soon.
Gege Akutami Reintroduces Sukuna’s Fingers In The Story
Image by Viz Media Chapter 12 of JJK Modulo focused heavily on the strange phenomenon called Inhuman Makyo within Tokyo. Following the intense battles in Shinjuku, Tokyo has become isolated from the rest of Japan, and now contains the majority of cursed spirits. The city holds two large exorcism rituals annually to limit the spread of these spirits to other areas. While guiding Maru, Yuka and Tsurugi unexpectedly discovered one of Sukuna’s fingers.
Sukuna, let’s start over once again. From the beginning. I’ll accept you. — Yuji Itadori to Sukuna
As longtime fans will recall, this is the cursed finger Yuji consumed at the start of the story, triggering the events that drove the entire plot. And now, it has reappeared.
Gege Could Bring Sukuna Back
The recent chapters focusing on Sukuna’s fingers strongly suggest the author intends to bring him back into the story somehow. The most likely way to do this would be for someone to consume a finger. However, the manga previously established that the remaining fingers have significantly less cursed energy, meaning eating them might not actually revive Sukuna.
It’s important to remember that was 68 years in the past, and a lot has changed since then, particularly around where Sukuna is located, as that area is now saturated with cursed energy.
Every six months, a large-scale ritual is performed to keep dangerous spirits contained and prevent them from spreading across Japan. — Yuka Okkotsu
Sukuna coming back would be a thrilling development for the story, and it fits with his character’s potential growth. After losing to Yuji, Sukuna seemed to shift his priorities. He’d always focused on becoming the strongest to avoid being defeated himself, but in his final moments, he hinted that he might choose a different path if given the chance.
Sukuna Wanted Another Shot At Life
Sukuna ultimately desires a second chance at life, hoping to live things differently. He previously dismissed Yuji’s offer to be reborn, but now seems more open to it. It’s clear that, having reconsidered his choices, Sukuna would likely accept Yuji’s offer if given the opportunity.
Sukuna’s presence would be particularly valuable if conflict erupts between humans and the Simurians. He could either help negotiate peace or discourage either side from fighting. Regardless of timing, fans are eager to see him reappear in the story.
The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is currently being published in Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. Chapter 13 is scheduled to come out on November 30, 2025, at midnight in Japan (11:00 AM Eastern Time, 8:00 AM Pacific Time). Readers can access the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
