EA Responds to Rumors About the Future of Sims 4 Development

Someone from the team behind The Sims 4 has responded to the recent spread of leaks and rumors about the game and the future of the Sims franchise. They said there’s been a lot of inaccurate information going around, but promised official news will be released at the beginning of next year. This statement from EA came shortly after another leak appeared, supposedly revealing details about what might be the last expansion pack for The Sims 4.

Lately, Sims fans have been buzzing about what’s next for the franchise, with lots of different rumors appearing online. The newest claim, posted on December 23th by X user @phii_oda, suggests the 21st expansion pack for The Sims 4 will be themed around royalty and feature three different kingdoms, including one inspired by Africa. This insider also believes this expansion will be the last major content release for The Sims 4, with only smaller updates and ‘Kit’ packs planned for the future.

EA Says Official Sims 4 News Will Arrive In January 2026

So, as soon as the leak popped up online, the Sims Community website wrote an article breaking it all down. Then someone shared that article on the Sims 4 subreddit, and it blew up! Seriously, within three hours, a community manager from The Sims team – Mindy_SimsCommunity on Reddit – jumped in to respond to the post.

Hey everyone, I’ve been seeing a lot of rumors floating around about The Sims, and honestly, it’s a bit confusing! The official team said they’ll be sharing what’s actually going on in early January through their usual channels. They just want us all to enjoy the holidays, which is fair enough. I’m looking forward to hearing what they have to say!

So, this person who’s been posting official news on the Sims subreddit for a while now didn’t say which parts of the recent leak were true or not. But it sounds like we won’t have to wait long to find out! EA is planning to share some official updates in early January through their usual channels, which is great news!

It’s worth mentioning that this information originated from another rumor that surfaced in November on the forum ATRL. A user named ‘gloamingtheplain’ claimed that the single-player part of Project Rene (reportedly called ‘Project X’ internally) will be released as a separate game in late 2026. According to this leak, this new Sims game – possibly called The Sims 5 – might not be as detailed or feature-rich as fans expect a true sequel to Sims 4 to be. The leak also suggests that the next expansion pack for Sims 4 will be the last one, although its content remains unknown.

In November, rumors began circulating that The Sims 4 might get a remaster, but many fans doubt it will happen. Even popular Sims content creator SimMattically stated on X (formerly Twitter) on November 19th that there are no plans for a remaster. However, several other Sims projects are reportedly in development, including a mobile game and a new platform called The Sims Hub, in addition to the highly anticipated Project Rene.

EA is likely to soon reveal what’s next for The Sims and address recent speculation. They’ve previously used “Behind the Sims” videos on the game’s YouTube channel to announce new content for The Sims 4 and hint at future plans for the franchise. For example, a stream in October 2022 unveiled Project Rene, which was described as the next generation of The Sims and a creative platform. EA might host another Behind the Sims stream in January 2026, and fans are hoping it will finally clarify the latest rumors.
