The 10 Strategy Games I am Most Excited For In 2026

Introduction

I’ve been following upcoming strategy games for 2026 and have created a ranked list of the ones I’m most looking forward to. My goal is to share some of the best new strategy games coming out that year, and maybe help you discover a few to add to your own list of games to play.

I’m putting together this list because I just want to share what’s got me hyped about each game – not give you a full rundown of the gameplay. I’ve actually gotten hands-on with a few of these already, and even wrote some first impressions pieces that I’ll link to where it makes sense.

Tell me if you think my game rankings are fair in the comments! Even better, share your own list of the games you’re most looking forward to in 2026.

10 – Empire Eternal

I truly believe the Empire Earth series shouldn’t have been discontinued. The original game was exceptional, and honestly, it was so good it deserves ongoing development! Putting jokes aside, I have great memories of playing that classic real-time strategy game in the early 2000s – it’s one of the best RTS games from that era that people have largely forgotten. Now, in 2026, Empire Eternal, a new RTS from MicroProse, feels like the closest we’ll get to a true Empire Earth experience. If you haven’t heard of it, Empire Eternal combines elements of Age of Empires and Civilization, letting you guide your civilization in real-time from the Stone Age all the way to the distant future.

9 – The Last General

It’s hard to say if The Last General will truly achieve its ambitious goal of letting players command huge armies across massive, 400 square kilometer battlefields, complete with economic and production systems. However, the fact that one person is developing this game and it’s shaping up so well is already remarkable, and that’s why it’s on this list. I’m hoping it will be similar to Manor Lords – a unique strategy game created by a single developer that offers something you can’t find anywhere else.

8 – Dust Front RTS

If Dust Front RTS lives up to its potential, I predict it will be among my top three favorite games of 2026. It’s a real-time strategy game set on a bleak, dieselpunk world scarred by countless wars. Players command massive armies – potentially thousands of units – battling both humans and monstrous creatures. The game’s dark red and grey visuals are impressive, and the animations of the combat machines are stunning.
