Splitgate has faced significant challenges recently. After support ended for the original game, the sequel launched with a lot of issues, marking the beginning of difficulties for the developers, 1047 Games. Despite trying to revive the game with a ‘relaunch’ under a new name, Splitgate 2 hasn’t been successful either.
The game, once hyped as a potential savior for first-person shooters, is now struggling to stay afloat. Player numbers have dwindled to just a few hundred on many platforms, viewership on streaming sites is nonexistent, and overall enthusiasm for the game is at an all-time low.
Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is Collapsing
On December 17th, 1047 Games launched Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, a new version of Splitgate 2. The original release of Splitgate 2 in June didn’t go well and was met with some serious issues.
Man, it was rough for Splitgate 2 this past July. They had to pull it back into beta because so many players stopped playing. It felt like everything was going wrong – people weren’t happy with how they were advertising the game, and then it turned out they were planning to charge a ton of money for stuff within the game. To top it all off, they had layoffs not once, but twice in just six weeks! It’s a shame, I was really hoping this game would take off.
After testing changes, 1047 Games decided to completely revamp Splitgate 2, renaming it Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. While the relaunch briefly attracted a few thousand players on certain platforms, that initial interest quickly faded.
As a fan, it’s tough to get a clear picture of how the game is performing on consoles. But, we can make some educated guesses based on the information that is available to us.
When Splitgate: Arena Reloaded was rebranded on December 17th, it had over 2,200 players online on Steam. However, as of today, the game currently has around 390 players online.
Recent reviews have acknowledged improvements to the game, but many feel these changes didn’t arrive soon enough to really make a difference.
Honestly, when I checked Twitch, only 134 people were watching Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. That’s a huge drop from its peak of over 138,000 viewers! It’s pretty clear that the game just isn’t grabbing anyone’s attention right now, either to watch or to play.
