Rainbow Six Siege Players Are Getting Banned for 67 Days

Players of the popular game Rainbow Six Siege are reporting unexpected 67-day bans, suggesting Ubisoft has been hacked again. This follows a recent incident where Ubisoft briefly took the game’s servers offline on December 27th due to a previous hacking attempt. It’s currently unknown if this new issue is a separate attack or related to the earlier security breach.

With a large and dedicated community, Rainbow Six Siege remains incredibly popular for Ubisoft, consistently attracting over 50,000 players on Steam even after a decade. It’s common for long-running online games to experience hacking attempts, but two recent, consecutive hacks have raised concerns about the security of Ubisoft’s servers among players.

Rainbow Six Siege is Hacked Again, with Players Reportedly Being Banned for 67 Days

A user named vx-underground reports that the servers for Rainbow Six Siege have been hacked. Many players are logging in to find their accounts unexpectedly banned for 67 days. Some are receiving a “Harassment Offense” ban message despite not breaking any rules. This 67-day ban length is a strong indicator of a hack, as ’67’ is linked to a popular internet meme.

Ubisoft’s website indicates that Rainbow Six Siege servers are experiencing widespread, unexpected problems on all platforms, strongly suggesting a significant hack. Players are reporting issues with connecting to the game, and services like authentication, the in-game store, and matchmaking are completely unavailable. Many are also seeing a “synchronization failed” error when trying to log in.

Rainbow Six Siege Has Now Been Hacked in the Course of a Week

On December 27th, Ubisoft temporarily shut down the servers for Rainbow Six Siege due to a hacking issue impacting the game’s store. During the hack, some players unexpectedly received a large number of in-game credits, and exclusive developer skins briefly appeared. While players who received the extra credits might have been happy, Ubisoft reversed all transactions made with those credits. Importantly, they didn’t punish any players for trying to buy items using the hacked credits.

After bringing the servers back online on December 28th, Ubisoft experienced increased login times and queues. Unfortunately, another server shutdown for Rainbow Six Siege is likely coming soon due to a new hacking incident. Ubisoft hasn’t commented on the situation yet, and it’s uncertain if players who were wrongly banned will get their accounts back before the 67-day ban period ends. However, it’s probable that these players will regain access to their accounts sooner, given the circumstances.

These recent hacks are particularly bad timing for Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft just released a popular Attack on Titan collaboration, letting players customize their characters, and launched Operation Tenfold Pursuit with new rewards for completing challenges. The 67-player ban wave means those affected could miss out on earning those rewards, making it even more important for Ubisoft to quickly fix the server issues.
