The video game industry continues to see job cuts, with recent reports indicating Warner Bros. Games laid off employees at its San Francisco office in December.
So, it looks like there were layoffs at the company – I first saw the news over on Game Developer. A bunch of former employees are posting on LinkedIn, and it’s pretty rough. Apparently, the Art Director and Director of Design at the San Francisco studio were among those affected. It’s never good to see people lose their jobs, especially talented folks like that.
Former Art Director Roland Herran announced that he recently left WB Games San Francisco after eleven years, a result of layoffs. He described his time there as ‘a helluva ride’ and expressed gratitude for everything the team achieved together.
Tony Perkins, who previously led design, shared that he really enjoyed working with the San Francisco team and is very proud of the project they completed together.
“Unfortunately, the stars didn’t align, and a great game didn’t find the success it needed!”
There’s no word as to what specific game Perkins is referencing in his statement.
Warner Bros. Games San Francisco has been developing games since 2013, mainly focusing on free-to-play titles and games for mobile devices.
TopMob has contacted Warner Bros. Games to learn more about the recent layoffs. We will update this article if we receive a reply.
Okay, so I’ve been following this closely – it looks like Warner Bros. Games might be sold to Netflix! It’s a big deal because Paramount has been trying to buy them too, even making several offers, but Warner Bros. has turned them down every time. It’s getting pretty intense!
