Persona 30th Anniversary Site Teases ‘Next Chapter’

Rumors of a new Persona game, Persona 6, are circulating thanks to text on the official website celebrating the series’ 30th anniversary. Although Sega and Atlus haven’t officially announced Persona 6 yet, the website’s description hints at a new installment and encourages fans to look forward to the next step in the Persona series.

The Persona series started as a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei, but it’s become famous for its unique blend of high school life and turn-based battles featuring powerful beings called Personas. Unlike many games, Persona also lets players influence the story through their relationships and interactions with other characters. While popular in Japan, the series gained wider recognition with the release of Persona 4 in 2008 and Persona 5 in 2016. In 2026, Persona will celebrate its 30th anniversary, joining other long-running franchises like Resident Evil, Crash Bandicoot, and Pokemon.

Persona Anniversary Site Description Leaves a Potential Clue

Fans are eager for news about the future of the Persona series following the 30th anniversary reveals. A recent discovery on Twitter suggests a new mainline Persona game – the sixth in the series – could be announced this year. Twitter user ScrambledFaz noticed a line in the Google description of Sega Asia’s Persona 30th anniversary website that reads, “Come celebrate the journey as we usher in the next chapter of the series.” This description appeared on January 8th, the same day as the anniversary livestream, but only when viewing the site through Google search and specifically on the Sega Asia version of the website.

Fans hoping for news about upcoming Persona games were disappointed by the January 8th anniversary stream. While Atlus showcased merchandise and collaborations, including a popular partnership with Sanrio, there were no announcements regarding new titles like Persona 4 Revival or Persona 6. Series producer Kazuhisa Wada expressed gratitude for fan support but didn’t offer any hints about future game development. Although Persona 4 Revival was later revealed at the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase, there haven’t been any further updates about the game since.

Persona Fans Should Not Give Up Hope Yet

The Persona series officially turns 30 on September 30th, the date the first game, Revelations: Persona, launched in Japan for PlayStation in 1996. It came to North America in December of the same year. While there’s been talk and leaks suggesting Persona 6 is still in development, Atlus didn’t share much news during their 30th anniversary stream. This means they have other opportunities to reveal more, such as at events like Summer Game Fest 2024 and the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, where Atlus and Sega could make announcements.

Fans hoping for Persona news in January might be disappointed. While Xbox is holding a Developer Direct on January 22nd, it will primarily showcase games like Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Beast of Reincarnation, and a smaller title from one of their internal studios. Though the Persona series has been featured at Xbox events previously, the announced schedule leaves little opportunity for Atlus to present anything new. We’ll have to wait and see when more solid details about Persona’s current game development will be revealed.
