Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang wants everyone to stop being so negative about AI.
The CEO of the world’s most valuable company, worth $4.5 trillion, believes that those predicting a negative future for the industry are actually causing damage.
I was listening to the No Priors podcast the other day, and they asked Jensen Huang about this whole “God AI” concept. We talked about how people are getting freaked out by how quickly AI is developing, and the negative feelings around it all.
Regarding God AI, Huang doesn’t see researchers “having any reasonable ability to create god AI.”
He argues that an AI capable of truly mastering all the complexities of human language, genetics, molecular biology, protein structure, amino acids, and the laws of physics is currently impossible. In other words, a ‘god-like’ AI simply doesn’t exist yet.
He argues that many industries urgently need AI, framing it as simply the next evolution of computing. While acknowledging that truly advanced AI isn’t imminent, Huang emphasizes that the world needs to start adopting and implementing it now – not just in the near future, but over the next ten years.
He believes that the concept of a huge, all-encompassing organization or country is simply not useful, and is an overreach. He suggested that if things are going to be taken to such an extreme, there’s little reason to continue trying at all.
A Continued Fear Of AI
Honestly, as a gamer, I’ve been hearing a lot of negativity about AI lately. It seems like everywhere you look, people are worried about it – some are scared they’ll lose their jobs, and others are freaked out by how realistic fake stuff created by AI can be. It’s definitely a hot topic with a lot of people having concerns.
Huang believes the ongoing negative comments from both the public and well-known people have been deeply upsetting.
He believes recent discussions, particularly from influential figures, have created an overly pessimistic and unrealistic outlook. While acknowledging many people enjoy science fiction, he feels focusing on worst-case scenarios isn’t productive.
Honestly, as a fan, it just feels like this isn’t benefiting anyone – not the people who enjoy this, not the people who make it, not even the bigger picture of things like our communities or those in charge. It’s just… not good for anyone involved.
Huang followed up by asking what the point of that story was and what the people sharing it hoped to achieve.
It’s likely that opinions on AI will remain sharply divided, both among the public and within the gaming world. This was recently highlighted when the game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 had its Indie Game Award revoked due to its use of AI-generated content.
