I just heard some really disappointing news – Ubisoft had another round of layoffs. This time, it’s affecting 55 people, including some of the talented folks who work on The Division at Massive Entertainment and the team over in Ubisoft Stockholm. It’s always tough to hear about job losses, especially at studios making games I enjoy.
Ubisoft is continuing to reorganize and cut costs, with more layoffs happening in 2026. They recently closed their Halifax studio after employees voted to unionize, which resulted in 71 job losses. Now, the company is cutting an additional 55 positions.
Ubisoft Announces More Layoffs As Voluntary Leave Program Reaches Completion
IGN reports that Ubisoft is planning a reorganization that will affect 55 employees at its Swedish studios, including Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm. This change follows a voluntary leave program designed to help the company determine the staffing needed to support its work long-term.
The planned layoffs aren’t due to how well people have been performing, recent projects, or the quality of the work. Instead, they’re about preparing for the future and making changes to the company’s structure.
Despite the changes, the studio’s overall goals remain the same. They will still be the main developer of the The Division series, work on a new, cutting-edge technology project with a focused team, and continue to improve Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect. Employees affected by the restructuring are being notified directly and will receive support as required by local laws.
There’s talk that a remastered version of The Division, called The Division: Definitive Edition, might be coming soon, thanks to an online advertisement. Developers also say the next installment, Division 3, is looking very promising. What do you think about Ubisoft recently laying off 55 people from the Division team and their Stockholm studio?
