Leather is a common material used in crafting games, and Hytale is no different. You’ll need different types and amounts of leather for many recipes and upgrades, so it’s a good idea to always have a supply on hand.
Obtaining leather in Hytale is straightforward, although it can take a while, particularly if you want different types. Here’s a simple guide to show you how to get some.
How to Craft Leather in Hytale
Leather is created by drying animal hides using structures called Tanning Racks. To build a Tanning Rack, you’ll first need to craft a Workbench and then gather the necessary materials.
- 6 of any Tree Trunk
- 3 of any Stone
- 3 Light Hide
You’ll find Tree Trunks and Stone all over the place, but Light Hide is harder to get – you have to hunt smaller animals like pigs and rabbits. Surprisingly, cows also sometimes drop Light Hide. If you spot any of these animals, hunting them is a good way to collect some Light Hide.
Okay, so I’ve got a Tanning Rack now, which means I need to go hunting for a lot more animal hides! Here’s a handy list of the different hide types in Hytale and what creatures actually drop them – it’ll save me a ton of running around!
| Item | Source |
| Light Hide (for Light Leather) | Rabbits Goats Pigs Cows Deer/Stag |
| Medium Hide (for Medium Leather) | Wolves Fen Stalkers |
| Heavy Hide (for Heavy Leather) | Bears Mosshorns |
If you want a reliable source of hides for leatherworking, setting up an animal ranch is the most effective method. In Hytale, you can attract and tame animals, allowing you to build farms for various resources. Capture livestock from the list above to have a constant supply of animal hides whenever you need them.
As you explore, you’ll find many different animals. However, the environment you’re in greatly influences what creatures you encounter. For instance, Fen Stalkers are only found in swamps and marshes, and they appear frequently. If you’re looking to collect a lot of Medium Leather, swamps are a great place to hunt Fen Stalkers.
Once you’ve gathered animal hides, put them in a Tanning Rack. They’ll slowly transform into leather. If you want them to process quicker, build and place additional Tanning Racks.
