How to Shiny Hunt Legendaries in Pokemon Legends ZA Mega Dimension

The Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A added many new Legendary and Mythical Pokemon to the game. Trainers can now find and catch these powerful Pokemon in special areas called Hyperspace Wild Zones and within unique distortions appearing all over Lumiose City.

Most Legendary Pokémon can’t be found as shiny versions in the game, but a few can! Luckily, there’s a reliable way for players to easily find and catch these rare, shiny Legendary Pokémon. Here’s how it works.

Which Legendary Pokemon Can Be Shiny Hunted in Pokemon Legends Z-A Mega Dimension

Non Shiny Locked Legendary Pokemon in Mega Dimension

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, only five Legendary Pokémon can be found in their shiny forms. Here they are:

You can only find these five Pokémon by playing the Special Scan minigame in the Mega Dimension DLC, and the way to hunt for their shiny forms is the same for each of them.

How to Shiny Hunt Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension

Legendary Shiny Hunting Method in Mega Dimension

  1. Unlock the Special Scan feature by completing Hyperspace Mission 12: The Greatest Gift (catch Rayquaza) and starting Side Mission 188: Start Special Scanning.
  2. Gather 25,000 Survey Points by completing objectives in Hyperspace Lumiose and trigger a special scan.

  3. Repeat Step 2 until an Unknown Hyperspace Zone with a yellow border appears on the map (these contain Legendary Pokemon).
  4. Talk to Nurse Joy at any Pokemon Center in Lumiose City to create an Auto-Save that can be manually triggered later on.
  5. Enter the Unknown Hyperspace Zone to know which Legendary Pokemon resides there.

  6. Close the game and boot it up again, and at the title screen, press Up (D-Pad), X, and B at the same time.
  7. Select “Start from backup save data” when prompted, and you’ll appear at the Pokemon Center.

  8. Enter the Hyperspace Wild Zone again using a Donut with a Sparkling Power Flavor Power of the corresponding type (more details below).
  9. Look for the Legendary Pokemon in the Hyperspace and make a Hard Save before approaching it.

If it isn’t shiny, move back 50 meters from its location to despawn it. Then, approach it again, and it will reappear in the overworld with rerolled shiny odds.

  10. Keep running back and forth to despawn and respawn the Legendary over and over again until you get a shiny version of it.
  11. If the Donut timer runs out, restart the game from the Hard Save you made earlier.
  12. Repeat the process until you get a shiny Legendary.

It can be tricky to tell when you’ve moved far enough away to make certain Legendary Pokémon disappear from the overworld, as they’re often hidden by things in the environment. To get a feel for roughly 50 meters – the distance needed for despawning – you can practice making other Pokémon disappear.

To significantly improve your chances of finding shiny Legendary Pokémon, it’s best to unlock the Shiny Charm first. You can do this by completing Mabel’s Research to at least level 50 before you begin your hunt.

How to Make a Sparkling Power Donut in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension

Best Shiny Hunting Donut Recipe

To make the most effective shiny hunting donut in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, use 8 Hyper Tanga Berries. This will give the donut a Sweet Flavor of 760, unlocking Sparkling Power Level 3.

Sparkling Power Flavor Power now comes in 19 different versions. Eighteen of these match a specific Pokémon type, and one special version, Sparkling Power: All Types, covers every type. If you’re trying to find a shiny Legendary Pokémon, you’ll need to use either a Sparkling Power donut that matches its type or the All Types donut.

If you’re trying to catch a shiny Virizion – a Grass and Fighting-type Pokémon – you’ll want to use a Sparkling Power donut that boosts either Grass, Fighting, or all types. A Sparkling Power donut focused on Steel-type Pokémon, for example, won’t be helpful in this case.
