How to Get More Inventory Space in Hytale

In games like Hytale, running out of inventory space is a common problem. You’ll constantly find useful items to collect! Luckily, you can expand your inventory by crafting backpack upgrades. These aren’t actual backpacks you wear – they’re one-time-use items that permanently add more storage slots. Once you’ve upgraded a character’s inventory, you won’t need to craft another one for them. Learning how to craft these upgrades is simple enough, but first, you need to know the recipe.

How to Get a Backpack in Hytale

First, you’ll need to upgrade your Workbench to level 2. Doing this will give you access to the recipe for the Unlock Backpack, which you’ll find in the Workbench’s crafting options. Here’s what you’ll need to upgrade it:

  • 30 Copper Ingot
  • 20 Iron Ingot
  • 20 Linen Scraps

Upgrades affect only one crafting station at a time. So, if you want several upgraded Workbenches, you’ll need to upgrade each one individually.

You can obtain Copper and Iron by mining them and then smelting the ore into ingots using a Furnace. Linen Scraps are found by defeating creatures like Skeletons and Trorks in Hytale.

Okay, so once I finally got my Workbench upgraded, I checked out the Tinkering tab. The recipe for the Unlock Backpack is right there at the bottom. To make it, here’s what I needed:

  • 8 Iron Ingot
  • 16 Medium Leather

Okay, so once you’ve made the Backpack upgrade, just put it on your quick access bar. Then, select it and right-click – that’ll unlock the Backpack slot! You’ll find it in your inventory, just to the right of your character. To see what’s inside, click the third diamond icon under the Crafting section. It’s super handy!

Upgrading Your Backpack

As you improve your Workbench and create more upgrades in Hytale, you can also enhance your Backpack. To craft the more advanced Backpacks, you’ll need these items:

Backpack Upgrade 1 40 Cindercloth Scraps 8 Cobalt Ingot 24 Heavy Leather
Backpack Upgrade 2 1 Voidheart 8 Adamantite Ingot 16 Storm Leather

Okay, so upgrading stuff requires some pretty good materials, which means you’ll need to do a lot more exploring! Like, if you want Cindercloth Scraps in Hytale, you’ll have to head down to the Volcanic layer – that’s where the lava is – and fight the enemies that spawn there. It’s a bit of a trek, but totally worth it!

The standard Backpack gives you 9 extra inventory slots – plenty of space for storing extra tools or materials you’re not using right away.
