While many Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are excited about the Switch 2 and update 3.0, fans of more adult-themed content are disappointed. A popular island known for its humorous, mature jokes has been removed, even though Nintendo hadn’t updated the game in five years.
Recent updates to Animal Crossing: New Horizons included some helpful, unannounced features, like a new way to move around while decorating. However, Nintendo also quietly began removing Dream Islands with adult content, which has upset some players. While Nintendo has always aimed to keep the Animal Crossing series family-friendly – it’s rated E for Everyone – the change still disappointed many. One popular Dream Island, especially among Japanese players and streamers like @retrogametv1, was removed for featuring mature humor.
What made this impressive island, built by New Horizons player @churip_ccc, so unique was its inclusion of jokes geared towards adults.
- A “free information center” that greets players as soon as they land, which are used in Japan to guide residents to brothels, strip clubs, and so on.
- A red-light district housing everything from pachinko parlors and saunas to “natural herb” vending stands.
- A “love hotel” featuring multiple copies of Michaelangelo’s David statue outside its doors. Trees are used to block out all parts of the statue besides its exposed genitals.
- Blathers room is filled with used tissues, with numerous Isabelle photos left by the side of the museum curator’s bed. Tom Nook’s room is similarly lewd.
The Creator of Animal Crossing’s Adult Island Knew Its Days Were Numbered
You can see the highlights of this island in the video. Even though it’s presented in Japanese, the humor still comes across! This New Horizons Dream Island is both funny and clearly a labor of love. Fans are praising its creator now that the island is no longer available to visit. Surprisingly, the creator, @churip_ccc, seems unfazed by the change and even expressed gratitude to Nintendo for letting the island stay up for as long as it did.
According to Automaton Media, the tweet says: “It turns out Nintendo deleted the address for the Adult Island just a day before the update. I sincerely apologize to Nintendo – or actually, thank you for letting it exist for over five years! And thank you to everyone who visited the island and to all the streamers who featured it in their videos.”
It’s debatable whether @churip_ccc is right about Nintendo allowing players to visit this island for so long. Nintendo has previously banned Dream Islands with offensive content, and the 2.0 update would have been a good opportunity to remove access to this location. It’s strange that such a well-known island with adult content was allowed to remain accessible. However, Nintendo has to monitor thousands of Dream Islands in New Horizons, so it’s possible – though surprising, considering its notoriety – that this one simply wasn’t noticed. We may never know if the island was intentionally left up for players to enjoy or if @churip_ccc just got lucky, but the result is the same: the island is now gone and can only be viewed through recorded footage.
The recent update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons makes it simpler for players to collaborate on island design, which is great for those creating mature-themed islands. However, sharing these islands as Dream Islands isn’t recommended, as Nintendo will eventually remove them.
