Throughout the entire One Piece series, characters have become significantly more powerful since their introductions, which is common in many action-adventure anime like it. This increased strength comes from various sources, including developing special abilities like Haki, or simply becoming stronger through challenging battles.

As a huge One Piece fan, I’ve always been fascinated by how characters get stronger, and the transformations are definitely a key part of that! They aren’t super frequent in the series, which makes them even more impactful when they do happen. There are four transformations that really stand out as the most powerful, so I wanted to dive in and break them all down for you!

Kaido’s Azure Dragon Transformation Fought Against A God

Devil Fruit: Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu

  • The power of a Mythical Zoan.

Throughout the One Piece series, Kaido stands out as one of Luffy’s strongest opponents. He possessed incredibly powerful Haki, and his Devil Fruit ability transformed him into a huge dragon. Many fans consider his Devil Fruit to be among the most powerful in the series, second only to Luffy’s own.

Transformed into his immense dragon form, Kaido fought the entire Wano army by himself, finishing the battle with a devastating new attack powered by the extraordinary Nika fruit. He even managed to lift the entire island of Onigashima with his flame clouds, intending to crush Wano and proving that only the legendary God of Liberation could possibly defeat him, the self-proclaimed World’s Strongest Creature.

  • Fans have dubbed this a ‘God Fruit’.

To truly frighten Imu and the Five Elders – the heads of the World Government – a power has to be extraordinary. That’s why the Nika fruit is so incredibly strong: it grants the user abilities akin to a god, a figure millions have worshipped for centuries.

For 800 years, the World Government has been unable to obtain the Gomu Gomu no Mi!

Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation gives him the incredible power to change reality, letting him do almost anything he needs. This ability comes from fully mastering his Devil Fruit powers, allowing him to turn things around him – like the ground, buildings, and even the sky – into rubber. He can also warp reality itself, demonstrated by his ability to grow to enormous sizes, create giant fists, and conjure objects from nothing.

  • Mysterious forms of the Elders.

I really enjoyed the Egghead arc, and so did a lot of other fans. One of the biggest reasons, I think, was that we finally got to see just how frighteningly powerful the leaders of the World Government truly are. It’s a shame, though, that the transformations the Five Elders underwent – becoming those Yokai – are still a mystery. We still don’t really understand how they did that.

It’s clear these villains receive their incredible power from Imu, and it’s strong enough to overwhelm even Luffy’s strongest Gear 5 form. For example, Warcury’s transformed state withstood a direct hit from Luffy without even flinching, while Luffy actually injured his arm. This demonstrates that Luffy and the other heroes still need to become much stronger before they’re ready to confront these enemies in the final battle.

Rocks D. Xebec’s Demonic Form Was Stronger Than Everyone Else

  • The strongest villain.

Loki’s memories of Elbaf helped explain many mysteries from the early days of One Piece, most notably by finally revealing the legendary Rocks D. Xebec. Xebec proved to be an incredibly powerful and well-developed character, with a compelling backstory, journey, and tragic fate, making him one of the story’s best supporting characters.

As long as I get my wife and kid to safety, I’ll be at peace with whatever happens next.

During the final battle of the God Valley Incident, Rocks was hit by Imu’s powers, triggering a transformation that turned him into a massive, incredibly strong demonic being. This new form was so powerful that even legends like Roger, Garp, and Whitebeard couldn’t defeat him. They were forced to combine all their strength into one massive attack, which finally returned Rocks to his original form.
