Even though Game of Thrones is over, I’m so glad we’re still getting stories from that world! I really loved getting to see the Targaryens’ history unfold in House of the Dragon, and now I’m excited for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to give us another look back at Westeros. It’s awesome that they’re continuing the story with these prequel series!
The upcoming series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg stories. It was announced in 2021, and fans have been anticipating its arrival ever since. Now, the premiere episode is almost here, and HBO has revealed exactly when it will be released.
When Does A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Come Out?
Episode 1 Of The Anticipated Series Will Arrive This Weekend

The first episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will debut on HBO on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 10 PM Eastern and Pacific time. HBO Max subscribers will also be able to watch it at the same time. Fans have been waiting a long time, and the story of Ser Duncan the Tall will finally begin in just a few days.
| Episode 1 | 42 Minutes |
|---|---|
| Episode 2 | 33 Minutes |
| Episode 3 | 31 Minutes |
| Episode 4 | 34 Minutes |
| Episode 5 | 37 Minutes |
| Episode 6 | 31 Minutes |
As a huge fan of the Game of Thrones universe, I’m really excited about the prequel! The first season will have six episodes, and thankfully, they’re keeping the release schedule consistent. I know some people were worried about the air time, but honestly, it’s a relief that each episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is under an hour. The premiere will be the longest at 42 minutes, but everything after that gets even more concise. Here’s a breakdown of how long each of the six episodes will be:
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Is Set 90 Years Before Game Of Thrones
AKOTSK Begins In 209 AC (After Aegon’s Conquest)
As a huge Game of Thrones fan, I think the big question on everyone’s mind while watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be, ‘Where does this fit into the timeline?’ Well, the first season is based on The Hedge Knight, and it takes place about 90 years before the original series. Compared to House of the Dragon, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set around 75 to 78 years after the events of the Dance of the Dragons – that epic Targaryen civil war we all remember!
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place during the reign of King Aerys I Targaryen, a surprisingly peaceful period in Westeros’ history. This calm allows Ser Duncan the Tall to pursue his ambitions and improve his luck. Because the story is set after the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, there are no dragons present.
While some fans of Game of Thrones might anticipate epic, large-scale battles, this new series takes a different approach. It keeps the dark and realistic feel of the original, and despite being set in a supposedly “peaceful era,” Westeros remains a dangerous place. However, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms won’t focus on threats like the White Walkers or massive conflicts. Instead, the story will primarily explore the personal challenges faced by Ser Duncan the Tall and his companion, Egg, as they travel the realm.
