The team behind Ubisoft’s Far Cry series shared a post hinting at performance improvements coming to three older titles: Far Cry 3, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry: Primal. The update will bring a smoother 60 frames per second experience to these games, which is exciting news for fans while they wait for the next new Far Cry installment. It’s notable that these updates are arriving more than ten years after the original releases.
The latest installment in the Far Cry series is Far Cry: Primal, which came out in February 2016. It’s a different kind of game where you play as a warrior in the Stone Age – think caveman times.
Major Far Cry Updates Coming Soon
The image recently shared by the Far Cry team is pretty easy to understand. The emojis they used aren’t complex or hidden – it’s quite obvious what they mean. Take a look for yourself:

If you know Far Cry, it’s easy to decode the suggestions:
- Far Cry + Jungle + Six Tea + Frame Pair Time = ?
- Far Cry + Blood Dragon + Six Tee + Film Pear Time = ?
- Far Cry + Primate + Six Tea + Frame Purr Time = ?
A user commented on the post, asking Ubisoft to please release a 60 FPS update for Far Cry 3. Ubisoft’s team responded with a simple reply.
I mean… it’s pretty clear what (it) is, no?
When one user decoded the messages, Ubisoft was pretty clear in their confirmation:

As a big Far Cry fan, I’m really hoping these updates are more than just bug fixes! The series hasn’t been at its best lately – Far Cry 6 just didn’t hit the mark like previous games. It’s been five years since that release, and honestly, we’re all craving something new and exciting from the franchise. I’m keeping my fingers crossed they’ve been working on some real improvements and optimizations!
In early 2025, TopMob exclusively reported that Ubisoft had restarted development on its multiplayer Far Cry game after initial internal reviews weren’t positive. The game, originally planned to be set in Alaska with players battling both the environment, wildlife, and other players, is now undergoing a complete re-evaluation.
That’s in addition to Far Cry 7, known as Project Blackbird, which remains in development.
