As a huge Pokémon fan, I was so excited to see someone online redesign some of the original 151! A lot of the Gen 1 Pokémon haven’t gotten updated in ages, and this artist did an amazing job giving them a fresh look while still keeping them recognizable and true to their roots. It’s a really cool take on some classics!

The Pokemon community is known for its incredibly creative fan art – some of the best you’ll find anywhere! With over 1000 different Pokemon designs across nine generations, fans have plenty to work with. It’s always exciting to see how people express their love for the series through art. Some create completely new Pokemon, while others reimagine existing ones with unique twists. Fans also make real-world Pokemon items and even develop entire fan-made Pokemon games. As the franchise continues to thrive, it’s safe to say these amazing fan creations won’t be stopping anytime soon.

This Pokemon Fan Art Puts a Fresh Spin on Iconic Gen 1 Designs

Artist pokeeprof recently shared incredible redesigns of classic Generation 1 Pokémon on TikTok, giving new life to favorites like Grimer, Muk, Meowth, Persian, Horsea, Seadra, Machop, Machoke, Machamp, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Tentacool, Tentacruel, Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Psyduck, Golduck, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Mew. Each redesign adds a lot of detail, with many being significantly different from the originals. Despite the changes, it’s still easy to recognize each Pokémon, showing pokeeprof’s skill in capturing their essence while avoiding simple copies. Fans loved the designs, with one even suggesting they be used in a new game! However, pokeeprof says creating a game is beyond their current abilities.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first generation of Pokémon, meaning fans have enjoyed these original designs longer than any others. Because they’re so well-known and beloved, they inspire a lot of fan art – more than any other generation. One particularly dedicated fan even combined every original Pokémon into a single, incredible creature! While many of these classic Pokémon have received updated forms in newer games, some haven’t, making them popular subjects for fan redesigns. The longer it takes for official updates, the more fans create their own versions.

2026 will be a huge year for Pokémon fans, as it marks the 30th anniversary of the franchise. While The Pokémon Company hasn’t announced official plans yet, there’s a lot of speculation that we’ll finally see Generation 10, potentially called Pokémon Wind and Wave. Information about this new generation is currently limited, and the developers at Game Freak haven’t given any hints about a release date. Hopefully, we’ll get official news soon. Fans should especially watch Pokémon Day on February 27, 2026, as that’s when The Pokémon Company might reveal details about their plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary.
