Introduction
The number of wishlists on Steam is a great way to see which games people are most looking forward to. If a game catches someone’s eye, they add it to their wishlist – it’s that simple! So, I checked the strategy section of Steam and compiled a list of the most anticipated strategy games, ranked by how many people have added them to their wishlists.
Let’s explore the top 10 most anticipated strategy games on Steam for 2026! I’ve also created lists covering other upcoming games in 2026, which you can find here.
10 – Star Wars Zero Company
I’m a bit surprised to not see Star Wars Zero Company higher on this list. Combining the team behind the XCOM series with the popular Star Wars universe seems like a fantastic idea. It’s actually the strategy game I’m most looking forward to in 2026! The game is set during the final days of the Clone Wars, and you’ll lead a team of elite operatives on dangerous missions for the Galactic Republic against the Separatists. It’s scheduled for release at the end of 2026, and hopefully we’ll learn more about it soon.
9 – Transport Fever 3

Tycoon and strategy games are always popular on PC, and I was surprised to learn that Transport Fever 3 is scheduled for release in 2026. According to its Steam page, this new installment from Urban Games aims to be a significant improvement over previous versions, offering a more expansive and realistic experience. Players will start by creating simple wagon routes and gradually build a transportation network encompassing land, sea, and air travel, evolving through different eras up to the present day. Beyond just managing transportation, the game promises a detailed, living world where individual citizens have their own lives and routines. It will be fascinating to see if Transport Fever 3 can live up to the high standard set by its predecessor, which many consider a top-tier tycoon and strategy game.
8 – Prison Architect 2

Prison Architect 2 is a bit of an odd case. We haven’t heard much about it in the last year, but Paradox Interactive hasn’t officially cancelled it – and they usually do if a game isn’t going to be finished. They are still releasing updates to the early version of the game, which is a good sign. For those unfamiliar, Prison Architect lets you design, build, and manage your own prison, handling both the inmates and all the chaos that comes with it. The original game was a huge success thanks to crowdfunding, and we’re hoping the sequel can deliver a similarly fun and unique strategy experience.
