EA’s Battlefield 6 is seeing a significant drop in players on Steam. The game recently had just 89% fewer players at its peak compared to when it first launched. Despite this recent decline, Battlefield 6 was initially a huge success, selling over 20 million copies and becoming the first Battlefield game in decades to sell more than a Call of Duty title. As a game that’s continually updated with new content, it needs to maintain player interest over the long term.
EA and the team behind Battlefield have been consistently updating Battlefield 6 since its launch, addressing issues, improving gameplay balance, and adding new features as part of Season 1. While Season 2 was initially planned for January 20th, it’s been pushed back, and Season 1 will now run until February 17th. The limited amount of new content may be contributing to the game’s decreasing player numbers.
Latest Battlefield 6 Player Count Numbers
Data from Steam DB shows that Battlefield 6 once had over 747,000 players playing at the same time on a single day. However, the most recent peak was just 80,839 players – a significant drop of 89%. While Battlefield 6 remains popular on Steam, this continuing decline in player numbers is concerning for a game designed to keep players engaged over a long period.

An update is coming to Battlefield 6 on January 20th, even though the first season has been extended. This update might attract some new players, but it’s more likely the number of players on Steam will continue to decrease until Season 2 launches on February 17th. When Season 2 arrives, it will be interesting to see if player numbers increase. A spike in players could suggest the game is doing better than expected, while a continued decline might mean significant changes are needed to win back lost players.

It achieved record sales for the Battlefield series and outperformed its competitor, Call of Duty. Even if player numbers don’t return to their highest point, Battlefield 6 remains a significant achievement for EA.
Why Has the Battlefield 6 Player Count Dropped So Much?
Beyond the issues with slow and inconsistent updates, a major reason for Battlefield 6‘s decreasing player base is likely the popularity of competing games. ARC Raiders, a new extraction shooter, has quickly become very popular, and many players have switched to it from BF6. Both games are designed as ongoing services with regular updates, so it will be interesting to see if ARC Raiders maintains its player numbers over the long term.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the player numbers for those other platforms, so it’s possible the game is actually holding onto more players on consoles or other PC stores. It’s tough to get the full picture just looking at Steam.
